Avery's Story

Hello, My name is Avery . . . I am a 3-year-old terrier blend boy who weighs 16 lbs. I am looking for my forever home with a dog savvy adopter, who is loving, patient and understands my needs. I haven't had much human interaction in my life, so I'm learning the joy of being loved in my foster home. I rely on the other dogs in my foster home, so my new home MUST have another dog—or dogs—my size (or smaller).

General Behavior: Avery is a sensitive, happy boy who will spend most of his day playing with dog toys while wagging his tail. Avery has come a long way in his foster home, learning to trust and working through his separation anxiety. Avery is discovering that people, places and things can be okay.

Likes & Dislikes: Avery LOVES mealtime, and will gently eat out of your hand or take treats politely. Sunbathing is another favorite - he will happily lie right next to you in the sun and follow you back inside when you're done. He loves being close to his person, so a home where someone is around more often than not would be ideal.

Training: In his foster home, Avery has done great with house training and will need regular, consistent potty breaks in his new home. He is still working on his basic manners and his dislike of car rides and leashes.

Medical: Avery is a healthy pup! Like any other dog, he will just need monthly heartworm and flea prevention.

Other Animals: Avery has experience with calm, laid-back dogs and enjoys playing with the dogs in his foster home. Avery's new home MUST have at least one other dog his own size or smaller, and he cannot live with cats.

Children: Avery is extremely nervous around children, so a home without children is a must.

Home: Avery will need a single-family home with a fenced yard, as he tends to bark when his humans leave and he feels nervous on a leash. Avery has free rein of his foster's home and does not enjoy being confined to a set space. When his foster returns, Avery greets them with enthusiasm! At night, he sleeps at the foot of the “big person” or in his own bed.

Grooming: Awesome Avery will need regular brushing and nail trims to keep him looking sharp.

Overall: If you are looking for a sweet boy who could quickly become your “little shadow”, Avery might be the one for you. In return, he asks for love, patience, understanding and a commitment to helping him live his best life. Remember, “slow and steady” is the way to go as you build trust and confidence together.

Are you the one for Avery? Please visit our website, www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You'll be put in contact with his foster family if it's a potential match. Avery is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and even had a recent dental. The adoption donation for Avery has been reduced thanks to a generous grant from Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, and is $350.
