Avery's Story

*********Please read bio fully before responding. We appreciate your interest in one of our dogs and it would be very helpful when you respond if you share information about yourself(home/yard, work hours, other pets, kids, dog experience..) Also, we do have an application at sparrowdogs.com that we will need in order to proceed with the adoption. THANK YOU!!

Avery began his journey into the rescue world as a stray, so we really do not know anything about his background or where he came from, poor guy. Such a little fella and in the middle of winter, pretty scary to be on your own. Naturally he has been a bit guarded at the shelter, but then was warming up to staff and become a bit more relaxed.

He has since joined our busy foster home and is settling in well. He loves the other dogs, enjoys playing and interacting with them. It did take a little encouragement from a couple of the younger and more playful dogs to encourage him to engage, and now he is all in for the most part. He still has a little hesitance with them and human interaction, but he is coming along wonderfully.

Avery, we assume is a JRT, possibly Fox Terrier mix, maybe a dash of Shih Tzu with that curled tail?? We really do not know, but he is a very handsome boy. He is 4 years old, fully vetted and thankfully housebroken as well!!

Avery so wants to fully let his guard down, and he has his moments where he is actually snuggly and loving and will sit on our laps. But then he has those moments of insecurity, a dash of fear where he reverts to some anxiety. He does well with low stress environment, allowing him to settle in on his own terms. He wants to check you out, make sure you are up to snuff...and sniff, lol. He will need a dog savvy home, an adult household will be best, unless the kids are teens. He LOVES to play, will chase a tossed toy, so far doesn't bring it back, but oh well. He will get there.

Avery is 4 years old, and is fully vetted and microchipped and ready to settle into his very own home. He is so special(as one who loves the spunky JRT's!!) Of course Avery is very smart and willing to learn. His adoption fee is $350. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Eye on the Sparrow's Adoption Policy
We try to make adopting a dog or cat a pleasant and fairly easy experience but also try to make the best possible fit for each dog or cat and the people involved. After being contacted by an individual we will respond with an email and attach an application as well. We will follow up with any questions or concerns and will do a phone consult as well. Remember all or our dogs are at volunteer foster homes and we do our best to get back to any inquiries as soon as is possible. Adoption fees help defer many of expenses such as medical care or other costs incurred by the dogs and are usually around $250, although some of the dogs can be adopted for less due to sponsors, special needs and senior programs, and some of the more "sought" after breeds and puppies generally have a higher adoption fee to help (pays for the extra surgeries, meds..so we can take special needs dogs).
