Ava's Story

***Update 10/9: Ava, along with 3 of her littermates have been transferred to the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Northern Illinois program for placement. Go to their website at http://www.gsdrni.org/ to inquire about adoption through their program. ***

Ava is a gorgeous black & tan (with red highlights) baby purebred German Shepherd Dog , now weighing 40.7 lbs, (up from 37 pounds when she first arrived) and estimated to be 6-8 months of age. Ava is one of two long coat German Shepherd Dog females that are almost identical. Just like her sister, Ava is very sociable and sweet natured, loves to have her ears scratched and give kisses. She will make a wonderful companion. She is one of a litter of seven puppies (four males and three females) found abandoned at a truck stop and then taken in to the local animal shelter.

The whole litter was found rummaging in garbage and eating rotten tomatoes and other debris to survive. They were rescued and brought to their foster home where they needed numerous baths and grooming to rid their matted coats of dirt, burrs, and filth. They were starving but are now being fed several times a day to give them the nutrition they need to grow. They are all amazingly affectionate and loving little pups and are ready for a family of their own to give them the love & care that they need.

Ava is a beauty with feathered ears and black silky coat with red and tan highlights. Her coat will be very pretty but will need to be thoroughly brushed at least once a week. Long coat German Shepherds are NOT mixes as some assume, but are purebred dogs and regarded by some as more attractive than standard coat German Shepherd Dogs although they cannot be shown in the conformation ring. Here is a link to a page with more information about the long coat German Shepherd Dog:
http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/2788/lhgsd.htm

She has already been wormed and had flea preventative applied, had a complete physical exam and vaccinated, will be started on heartworm preventative, and will be microchipped & spayed the week of the 11th.

Ava will need a consistant routine to help her learn all about the house training concept. Obedience training will be a must for this bright and eager to please girlie.Willing to consider families with children ages 8 and older who are considerate of animals. Fenced yard required.

Adoption donation for Ava is $250.

If you are interested in adoption, please fill out an Application prior to contacting us. Our adoption information page has detailed information on the adoption process, and should answer most of your questions.

Special thanks for the following sponsors:

Would you like to be a sponsor?
