Meet Austin! Austin is a sweet 4-year-old Poodle weighing around 20 pounds. He can be a little shy when entering new surroundings and meeting new people, but with patience and time, he continues to build confidence and learn that the world can be a safe place. Austin absolutely loves being around other dogs and forms strong bonds with his canine friends. Because he relies on other dogs for comfort and confidence, he requires a home with another friendly, social canine companion who can help him continue to open up and adjust to home life. Austin now walks well on leash and enjoys getting out to explore with his people. Even with his improved leash skills, he requires a securely fenced yard because he is capable of jumping a 4-foot fence. A secure yard will help keep him safe while he enjoys outdoor time and continues building confidence. Austin is looking for a patient family who will give him the time, understanding, and positive experiences he needs to settle in and thrive. With a canine companion by his side and a family willing to let him move at his own pace, he has all the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion. A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for Austin, his potential adopters, and any resident dogs.

At NMDR, we use a welcoming, conversation-based adoption process! We look at every applicant as a partner, offering honest education about our dogs' needs so you can make the best choice for your lifestyle. We generally do not deny adoptions based solely on yard size, housing type, adopter age, or having other pets. Because many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeding facilities, we maintain a few firm safety and mission-aligned policies: Spay/Neuter Requirement: To help end the cycle of irresponsible breeding, all resident dogs in your home must be spayed or neutered. Homes with Children: Many of our dogs had limited socialization before rescue. Older kids are often a great match! Homes with younger children are considered individually based on the dog’s needs and the adopter’s experience with home management. Companions Only: Our dogs are adopted strictly as indoor family companions. Out-of-State Adopters: You are welcome to apply, but you must travel directly to the specific shelter housing the dog (in CO or MO) to complete the adoption. We do not ship or transport dogs. A Supportive Safety Net: Life is unpredictable, and sometimes a match isn't perfect. We discuss long-term safety nets with all adopters, and if a placement doesn't work out, we welcome our dogs back with zero judgment. Fees: Adoption fees vary by age and directly offset the extensive veterinary care, dental work, and rehabilitation each dog receives before adoption. Ready to meet your new best friend?
