He is a mixed breed of Shepherd and Collie, (possibly Husky). His beautiful silky coat requires regular and ongoing grooming to maintain its healthy shine, and he very much enjoys the attention.<br/><br/>He is neutered and up to date with vaccines. He has been fully vet checked and has been given a clean bill of health with no known health issues. His teeth are pearly white and most impressive for his age.<br/><br/>Known History:<br/>Due to unfortunate life circumstances, Atticus has gone through many life changes, including being moved from home to home. He was originally in foster care temporarily until his owner returned, however, it has now been established that his owner is no longer able to care for him. <br/><br/>Personality and Characteristics:<br/>Atticus loves nothing more than being with his human. Due to his unstable past, he can be wary of new people, but once he warms up to you and gains your trust, you will be the most important thing in his life. True to his Shepherd/Collie traits, he is a devoted and loyal companion.<br/><br/>He loves going for walks and has polite leash manners, although he is selective when choosing his doggie friends.<br/><br/>He is at his happiest when frolicking in water, whether in a kiddie pool or at a riverbank, he happily wades, digs and splashes in the shallows for hours. He also enjoys short fetch sessions and tug. At the end of his day, he loves to snuggle on the couch or by your feet.<br/><br/>Atticus enjoys freedom of the house when left alone. He is used to being alone for part of the day, where he will contentedly await your return. He is not crate trained.<br/><br/>He tolerates car rides but can get a little anxious and will pant and whine occasionally. A yummy filled kong or a lick mat distracts him for the duration.<br/><br/>Atticus understands basic commands. He is a smart and fast learner and likes to please his human, and will certainly benefit from a confident and strong leader willing to work with him He is also treat motivated, especially cheese. You have his heart if you offer him water melon...<br/><br/>He does display mild anxiety when placed in new and unfamiliar situations - this is attributed to his unstable past. He is currently taking a mild dose of gabapentin. Again, a confident and gentle leader is required to help him work through his anxiety and wean him off his meds.<br/><br/>Atticus Needs:<br/>Ideally, a quiet ‘adult only‘ home where he can feel safe and relaxed. He gets very attached to his human and would specially love a ‘one person’ home or an adult couple where he can be companion in chief. He is easy going with cats. Being the only dog would be ideal, although he can cohabit with another stable, balanced dog following slow introductions. No children for Atticus.<br/><br/>Ample physical and mental stimulation is required to continue building his confidence. He would love a fenced yard to explore and play a little fetch.<br/>Stability and consistency are this boy's anchor. He will thrive in a safe and quiet environment, with someone willing to work with him to build up his confidence and help him be his best self.
