Atticus's Story

Meet Atticus, quite possible the sweetest senior shepherd that has ever lived!

Atticus came into our care from one of our shelter partners. He was described by the shelter staff as an incredible dog, and we can confirm he is all that and more!

Atticus loves people. Big, small, male, female he greets all people calmly and confidently. He thrives on human attention and in our home has become our constant shadow and frequent tripping hazard.

He is wonderful with other dogs and seems to enjoy being apart of a pack. He is also great with cats.

While in our care Atti has been fully vetted and also received a dental. In fact he won "pet of the month" from our vet clinic for being such a wonderful patient. Atti had quite a bit of back end weakness when he first came into rescue. As he has gotten healthier and stronger this has improved but being a shepherd in his senior years he will need a home understanding of his mobility restrictions. For this reason we are hoping for a one level home. While he is getting quite good at going up stairs he doesn't seem to trust himself to go down them so currently we are carrying him down a couple times as day and at 70lbs that will likely not be realistic in his forever home. He also takes metacam daily for arthritis which helps immensely.

Atti is crate trained and house trained when he is kept on a schedule. Our assumption is that Atti was an outdoor dog. He knows to go to the washroom outside, and keeps his kennel clean but he doesn't seem to totally graps that he can't also go inside when his cues are missed. When we can't supervise him and at night we are currently crating him and that combined with regular trips outside prevents any accidents. Luckily he loves his crate and is more than happy to nap it in whenever we aren't home.

Atti is a truly special dog and our hope is to find him a retirement home who will spoil him and give him the best possible care through his senior years.

For more information, you may contact Courtney (foster parent) at courtneyjmiller18@gmail.com

To fill out an adoption application for Atticus, please visit our website: http://www.savemedogrescue.ca

**Adoptions within the province of Ontario only
