Atlas's Story

Atlas is a loving cattle dog rescued from a Houston-area shelter and ready for his forever home.

He’s dog-friendly with all breeds and sizes, enjoys playing with dogs his size, walks well on a leash, and is fully crate trained. He tolerates puppies but prefers a calmer environment without all the in-your-face puppy chaos.

While Atlas enjoys the company of a canine playmate, he does not require another dog in his forever home. He would be perfectly happy as an only dog, provided his new family continues to socialize him, gives him plenty of attention, and keeps him mentally and physically stimulated.

Atlas loves human affection, especially neck scratches! He may need a little time to warm up, but once he trusts you and understands he’s safe, he’ll be your loyal best friend for life.

Atlas’s ideal home:

Atlas does well with older, respectful children who understand boundaries and know how to interact appropriately with dogs. While he gets along wonderfully with other dogs, he is not suitable for a home with livestock.

As a cattle dog, Atlas would benefit from an owner who understands herding breeds and their unique needs. These intelligent, loyal dogs thrive with structure, consistency, continued socialization, and both physical and mental stimulation. Atlas deserves a family who appreciates his breed’s natural instincts and is committed to providing the enrichment and guidance he needs to thrive.

Most importantly, Atlas is looking for a patient, loving home that will allow him to build trust at his own pace. Once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll have a devoted companion who will love you endlessly.

Atlas is approximately 3 years old and weighs 35 lbs.

Atlas is being fostered in Houston, Texas, but he is available for adoption in many areas across the country. If you're seeing this post, that means he's available to transport to your area! His adoption fee is $600, which includes transport. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, and current on preventatives.

If you think Atlas might be your perfect match, apply today:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DSTR/Dog
