Athena's Story
Athena is a 7 month old petite lab mix.
When she first arrived she was a puppy missile, full of non-stop jumping and zooming around. It was almost impossible to get her to stop moving to get a leash on her, to keep her off the counters, or to stop jumping up on everyone. Her fosters found that she wasn’t potty trained or crate trained. She’d also chow down on all her food at once and want more.

Her foster family started with potty training right away. A regular outing schedule every hour. This seems to be helping!

She is learning about crate training and she will now go in if her foster puts a treat in her crate.

When she arrived, Athena (who kept her name from her former family - didn't seem to know her name). She finally started responding to her name! It had been difficult to verbally get her attention until then. Now that she’s learned her name it has made addressing jumping and getting down from the counters so much easier. Those are still a work in progress but she’s had significant improvement since learning her name.

She’s much better about getting her leash on. She’s calmed down quite a bit too now that we’re not so new. She only does one medium paced lap around instead of a million “speed of light” jumping laps around the house when she comes out of her crate or from a potty break or when someone walks in the door. She’s also learned sit and shake. She’ll even do them without the expectation of a treat.

Her foster family reports that they still have lots of work to do but the progress she’s made in this short amount of time is amazing!!! Athena has a ton of love to give!

She has yet to be cat or dog tested which will be done prior to adoption. Athena will also be spayed and up to date on all shots with her adoption contract.
