Athena's Story
Meet sweet Athena! This beautiful young Lab mix is around 2 years old and weighs 60 pounds.

Athena had a rough start to life as a stray in a rural area, raising a litter of puppies on her own. Save a Lab took her and her babies in and while they have all found loving families, it is now time for Athena to become part of a forever family!

Athena is a very friendly dog who loves people and is wonderful with other dogs. She is playful and enjoys romping around with the other dog in her foster home. She doesn’t have any food issues although she is fed separately from the other dog; initially she was very underweight and would gobble her food up quickly.

With her youthful energy, Athena would do well in a home with older children who can interact and entertain her. She is still learning not to jump on people so tiny humans might be overwhelmed by her. Athena has not been around cats.

Because Athena has not had any real home life prior to being rescued, she is full of puppy behaviors and will need a family committed to continue the training her foster family has started. Her foster mom says she is one of the most lovable fosters she has ever had so the effort put into her will be well worth it!

Athena is very good in her crate and should be crated when left alone as she is still learning what is dog appropriate to play with. She does truly want to please and responds well to being redirected. Athena missed out on what most dogs have as puppies from the love and attention to the essential training, but she is catching up and eager to learn how to belong to a family. She will not disappoint!

Athena will be available for adoption on, or after, March 13th, 2026

If you are interested in Athena and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Athena’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Athena is fostered in RI
