Aspen's Story
Meet Aspen – A Gentle Soul Learning to Trust

Breed: Lab Mix
Age: 1 year
Weight: 50 lbs

Aspen is a sweet, sensitive young Lab mix who is just beginning to learn what it means to feel safe and loved in a home. After arriving at the shelter in early August, Aspen moved into a foster home where he’s been making slow but meaningful progress every day.

Naturally shy, Aspen thrives in calm, predictable environments and bonds deeply with his trusted person. Sudden noises, fast movements, or unfamiliar men can make him nervous, but with patience, reassurance, and consistency, Aspen continues to gain confidence. One of his biggest milestones so far? Playing with the resident dog for the first time — a huge step for this gentle boy.

Aspen at Home

-Fully house trained and crate trained
-Sleeps quietly through the night
-Walks nicely on leash without pulling
-Eats well with no guarding of food, toys, or people
-Gentle with handling (paws, ears, tail, collar)
-Calm, affectionate, and loving once he feels safe

Aspen isn’t highly food motivated, so training takes time, but he responds well to calm guidance and understands boundaries when told “no.” He does not nip, jump, or mouth, and his greatest joy is simply being near his person, soaking in quiet companionship.

Ideal Home:

Aspen would do best with a patient, understanding adopter who can offer a calm household and allow him to continue building confidence at his own pace. With the right environment and a kind heart guiding him, Aspen will make an incredibly loyal and loving companion.

Aspen may be shy at first, but once he trusts you, he’ll give you his whole heart.

Aspen would thrive in a quiet home with someone patient who can help him continue to build confidence. He may do well as an only dog or with another calm, friendly companion. With time, love, and reassurance, Aspen will blossom into a devoted and gentle companion.

Must apply at: https://buddyandfriendsma.org/adopt

You must apply directly on our website for consideration
