Asher's Story
Asher came to us as a stray. However, several individuals reached out to us that were aware of his previous living conditions and we were able to learn quite a bit about him. While Asher did not have the best start in his first 12 months, but we are confident that the rest of his doggie life will be much better!

Asher is your #bestbud once he trusts you, which took about 2 meetings when he first arrived at the kennel but now in just over a week, Asher feels safe and quickly warms up to volunteers. Patience and allowing him to initiate interaction with our volunteers gave Asher the confidence he needed to really show us his personality. He is playful and affectionate. He loves a good squeaky or a ball and has quickly reached a willingness to lay down with a chew toy or antler while volunteers complete tasks around the kennel.

We have learned that Asher has separation anxiety, but with some CBD oils and composure treats, he is doing so much better in a very short time. Due to his anxiety, Asher was having quite a few accidents when he first arrived at the kennel, but again, in a short time, these accidents have significantly reduced. It is hard to potty train when not in a home but he is doing much better just after a week!

Asher clearly appreciates the finer things in life. There’s a box full of comforters at the kennel that he likes to jump in and lay on. He is a great copilot in a vehicle and even went looking at Christmas lights with a volunteer. Asher loves to use his nose, so nose work is both a ton of fun and enriching for him. Hide treats around the house and let him use his best sense to find the goodies. He also excels at brain games for enrichment!

While Asher has adjusted quickly to the kennel, our belief is that a kennel is a temporary solution for dogs. Ultimately Asher needs a #foster or #fureverhome to truly thrive in. He will still howl, cry, pace, and have accidents when left alone at the kennel. We are confident that these behaviors will continue to decrease once Asher is in a home setting with consistency.

We believe a home that will take an interest in enrichment activities like nose work, hiking, tricks, maybe even agility, would be best for this boy. Asher is super smart!! He has lived with young children and responds quite well to interacting with them. At 4 Paws we believe children and dogs should always be monitored. While Asher has been gentle with children, dogs and children are both unpredictable, so a home that is willing to commit to helping Asher be successful by monitoring his interactions with children would be ideal.

Asher has lived on and off with cats and other dogs, he needs to have proper boundaries and expectations taught with kitties as he likes to play with them. He has not hurt a cat but we believe at his young age setting good boundaries/expectations would benefit Asher if he were to live with kitties moving forward. He enjoyed playing with a dog that he sometimes lived with also.

Asher arrived with significant skin issues and significantly malnourished. Hund Haus donated a bath and Asher enjoyed this experience! He was not as fond of the nail clipping but he made it through! 4 Paws had a full blood panel run on him and he has a few numbers that were off but the vet is not concerned about them and said with his current condition, nothing came as a surprise and we will be running the panel again in 3-4 weeks.

He was negative for Lyme, heartworm, and other parasites. The skincare and healthy, consistent nourishment he is receiving will have him feeling and looking like a 12 month old lab mix should look in no time!

If you are interested in hearing more about Asher, please complete an application here, we would love to tell you more about him.

PA kennel license #17325

You may need to copy and paste

https://bit.ly/3P1VvlO
