Asher is ready to try again. He was adopted at the end of last year and promptly lost by his adoptive family. He lived for 8 months at the fairgrounds and when we were notified and were able to trap him, he came back terrified of people chasing him and very shut down.
He has made tremendous progress but will still need a lot of patience and love to make it the rest of the way.
Asher must have another dog/s in his new home with a similar play style to model life in a home after.
He is as sweet as they come, he loves other dogs, is fine with cats and is really showing the ability to connect with humans. He can be approached and tolerate (and maybe even enjoy) some pets and belly rubs. He is not super high energy but will require a super SECURE fenced yard.
He has bonded with his foster and the staff and will follow us and wants to be with the pack but he is a flight risk and may always be a flight risk.
Asher walks, on a leash and is crate trained and is close to being ready to learn some basic skills although he is so soft and sweet it isn't a huge problem.
We often adopt same day as the first visit an interview but it is not guaranteed. Some dogs will take multiple visits and adopters are approved based on the best fit for the particular animal being considered. We do not hold pets during the process.
Most dogs who come from the shelter will not be house trained.
Most adoptable dogs will need some reintroduction into a home, potty training, basic manners and social skills. Please be prepared to provide that training and dedication that will be needed.
We do not have any way of knowing if a dog or cat will do well with all children or all other animals.
It is important everyone in the home is introduced to the new pet.
We also require that any family dogs come into meet your potential adoptee. Please be sure your dogs are spayed or neutered and current on vaccines (distemper - parvo and rabies) before bringing them to the shelter.
All dogs must be transported home in a travel crate to transport your new pup home safely.
Renters must provide a copy of a lease indicating pets are allowed or contact information for the landlord.
If you are interested in meeting or adopting one of our pets or have questions about the process please see our website at www.adoptmountainpets.org or call the Shelter between 11:00 am and 5:45 pm Tuesday through Saturday. 970 626 2273
