ASH — THE MUD-LOVING, RADAR-EARED LOVER BOY OF THE RURAL KREW <br/><br/>Ash might be our most Heeler-minded guy of the Rural Krew. He’s always listening, always watching, always pretty damn sure something fun is happening somewhere without him. Those giant radar ears with their little tilt are constantly tuned in to Haven business.<br/><br/>Usually listening. Not usually judging. <br/><br/>But for all that Heeler brain packed into him, Ash is one gigantic love bug.<br/><br/>Much like his brother Loki, this boy absolutely melts into his human for chest rubs. He’ll press himself right into you, settle in and basically turn into a puddle. He loves exploring, but given the choice, being close to his person usually wins.<br/><br/>And watching Ash find a good balance in life has been pretty damn special.<br/><br/>He used to be our much more anxious boy. These days, he LOVES his outdoor suite, tells me when he wants to go outside and when he’s ready to come back in, and has been kicking butt at settling back down once he’s inside. He still has some anxiety at times, but seeing him learn how to communicate what he needs and become more comfortable in his world has been one of those quiet little Meraki wins. <br/><br/>Potty training is still a work in progress — honestly, that’s something all our current Heelers are polishing. They try really hard, but a Haven full of dogs and activity can make those little cattle-dog brains go OMG EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING AT ONCE. <br/><br/>Get Ash outside, though, and there’s a whole world waiting.<br/>He LOVES going on walks and exploring. He’ll dig for moles, hop through tall grass like some weird little Heeler bunny, and investigate whatever catches those radar ears.<br/><br/>And then it rains.<br/><br/>Ohhhh, then Ash has found his calling. <br/><br/>While some dogs might carefully step around a puddle, Ash is basically yelling LET'S GOOOOO. Face in it. Legs in it. Mud everywhere. If there’s a puddle available, this boy believes it should be experienced properly.<br/><br/>Ash loves playing with his fur friends too. He’s generally submissive in play, but make no mistake — he still plays like a Heeler. Fast, energetic and ALL IN. The pictures of him piled up wrestling, rolling and cuddling with his friends pretty much tell the story. <br/><br/>He listens really well, too. Ask him for most things and you can see that brain working with you.<br/><br/>Ask him to stop barking because somebody somewhere might possibly be having fun without him?<br/><br/>Well...<br/><br/>We are still accepting thoughts and prayers on that one. <br/><br/>The Heelers firmly believe every gathering they weren't personally invited to is an injustice.<br/><br/>For Ash, we’d really love a forever home where he can be part of his humans’ everyday life. Someone who works from home or retired folks could be an amazing fit because while he’s made huge strides, that anxious piece of him can still show up sometimes. He hasn’t been around kids here, but older kiddos who can match his play style — and perhaps appreciate the fine art of getting completely filthy in a mud puddle — could be worth meeting. <br/><br/>Ash doesn't need someone to turn him into a different dog.<br/>He needs somebody who loves the dog he already is — the explorer, the mud monster, the cuddle bug, the radar-eared little busybody and the sweet boy who has worked so hard to find his balance.<br/><br/>Meraki has gotten to be the place where Ash learned a little more about himself and about the world.<br/><br/>Now we want him to find the person whose chest he gets to melt into for the rest of his life. <br/><br/> Ash is available for adoption through Meraki Animal Haven Society in Owasso, Oklahoma.<br/>Share our Rural Krew boy and help a little Meraki magic find its way to Ash’s forever.
