Arlo from Wortham's Story
***Arlo is in Colorado and needs a foster home! Please fill out the foster application or contact us for more info.***

10/27/25 update: This sweet, goofy boy is a social extrovert when it comes to people and loves to play with dogs. He loves affection, ear rubs, belly rubs. He will greet you by putting his paw up. He's been living and playing with two female dogs 40 and 25 pounds and doing great. Arlo is going to be that loyal best friend novels are written about.

Arlo has been living in a rural shelter in Wortham, Texas, since February this year. Unfortunately Arlo, and all the animals at the shelter, have little prospects as the shelter does little to no adoptions. There is a small group of individuals in Wortham that work tirelessly to network (and vet, on a very limited budget) these animals to foster-based rescues in and out of Texas that are willing to consider them. Red Fern was contacted by one of these volunteers who together with her high school daughter, go to the holding facility every day to walk the dogs, socialize them, take them to the vet, and just spend quality time with them.

Arlo was found at the high school and had become attached to one of the male coaches that works at the school. He followed him home and followed him to the school every single day. He was very loyal to that one specific man and he played with the kids at the school. He ran the streets of the little town for a good couple months until he was finally caught and has been at the shelter ever since.

Arlo has a really funny personality. He loves to yell and talk. He loves water and has a big tub of water he loves to lay in. He loves to go for walks and he loves when kids come to visit him. He does not love the Texas heat, but we can help him with that. He's a sweet boy.

Good with other dogs? Yes, but not all males

Cats? Unknown

Kids? Yes

Potty trained? Unknown

Crate trained? Unknown

Leash trained? Walks well on a leash.

Arlo has made the journey up from the rural Wortham, Texas shelter to Colorado and is dreaming of a foster or furever home. He is available to meet!

Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa.

Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio.
