Arlo's Story

Meet Arlo: The Resilient Soul Ready for His Forever Adventure!

Black Labrador Retriever / Mastiff Mix | Male | 1 Year Old (Estimated) | ID #3503

Arlo is a "Valentine" miracle. Scheduled for euthanasia on February 14th after a string of bad luck and a bout of illness, he was saved at the eleventh hour by Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue. Since then, this striking dark-brindle boy has proven that he isn't just a survivor—he’s a superstar.

Personality: The Ultimate "Love Bug"

Arlo is a happy, vocal, and incredibly affectionate puppy. Despite a rocky start, he has zero aggression and hasn't so much as growled. He is a professional cuddler who loves to rest his head in your lap and give endless kisses. He "talks" when he’s excited, making sure you know exactly how happy he is to see you!

Life in the Home

Arlo has transitioned from "shelter stressed" to "family favorite" in record time.

House Training: He is mostly housebroken but can have "excitement accidents" on the way to the door. He’s a young guy who just gets a little too enthusiastic about outside time!
Crate Trained: He settles beautifully in his crate at night and during the day, though a midday walker is ideal for his age if left longer than a few hours.
Manners: Arlo is a dream in the kitchen. He does not counter-surf, steal food, or get into the trash. He is a gentle treat-taker and highly motivated by positive reinforcement.

Intelligence & Training
Arlo is wicked smart. In just one week, he mastered:

Sit, Stay (even out of sight!), Down, Crawl, Leave it, and Drop it.
He thrives on "jobs" and mental stimulation. He loves scent games ("Find it!") and has a blast with a lunge whip (horse training tool) to channel his natural energy. Socialization & Prey Drive

Dogs: Arlo has been social and respectful with other dogs.
Kids: He has been calm and relaxed around younger children, watching them play with gentle curiosity, although he may not remember his size if too excited.
Prey Drive: Arlo has a strong, "hound-like" prey drive indoors. He can occasionally fixate on spots where he thinks a critter might be. However, he is learning to "Leave it" and redirect his focus beautifully.
Farm Life: He is surprisingly calm around horses, chickens, and even peacocks!

The Ideal Match

Arlo is a high-potential dog who would excel in an active home or even a working role (scent work or search and rescue). His perfect family looks like:

No cats, small animals, or small dogs (due to his prey drive).
An active household that enjoys training and mental games.
A family committed to maintaining his structure and routine.
Arlo went from the euthanasia list to a couch-loving, command-obeying companion in a matter of days. He is intelligent, eager to please, and has so much love to give. Could you be the one to give this brave boy the permanent home he deserves?

PLEASE NOTE: While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue.
