Humane Society of Louisiana's Adoption Policy
At the Humane Society of Louisiana, we believe every animal deserves a safe, loving, and permanent home. Our adoption process is designed to match each pet with a family that can provide the love, care, and commitment they deserve. Based in New Orleans, the Humane Society of Louisiana fights cruelty and neglect statewide. The charity also operates the Enoch J. Donaldson Animal Sanctuary for horses in Mount Hermon and the nearby Animal Transport Center in Tylertown, Mississippi, at the site of the former Camp Katrina Disaster Relief Center. While most of our rescued Louisiana animals move through Tylertown on the way to our out-of-state adoption partners, we also have some animals available for direct adoption to the public, featured here. Our goal is to make the adoption experience enjoyable and informative while helping you find your perfect companion. Step 1: Adoption Application Your journey begins with an approved adoption application! All potential adopters must complete and submit an adoption application before beginning the adoption process. Here is the link: https://form.jotform.com/230395374915058 Our team will carefully review your application to learn more about your household, lifestyle, experience with pets, and expectations for your future companion. An approved application allows us to move forward with the adoption process but does not guarantee the adoption of a specific animal. Step 2: Phone Interview Let's get to know each other! Once your application has been approved, a member of our adoption team will schedule a phone interview. This conversation allows us to learn more about you, your family, and your lifestyle, and to discuss the needs, personality, and care requirements of the pet you're interested in; to answer any questions you may have about the animal or our adoption process; to discuss your expectations; and to determine whether the pet would be a good fit for your family. Our priority is finding a compatible match that will bring happiness to both you and your new companion. Step 3: Meet & Greet It's time to meet your potential new best friend! Following a successful phone interview, we will arrange a meet and greet with your potential new family member. This is your opportunity to spend quality time together, get to know the animal's personality, and see whether that special connection is there. We encourage you to ask questions, interact with the pet, and take the time needed to determine whether they are the right companion for your household. Our team will be available to offer guidance and answer any additional questions. We want every adoption to be a wonderful experience for both the animal and their new family. Step 4: Adoption Contract Making it official! Once the adoption has been approved and everyone agrees that the animal is a suitable match, the final step is completing and signing our adoption contract. The adoption contract outlines the adopter's responsibilities and commitment to providing a safe, loving, and permanent home. All required adoption paperwork must be completed and approved before the animal is released to their new family. Once everything is finalized, it's time to welcome your new companion home! Our Commitment to Responsible Adoption The Humane Society of Louisiana is dedicated to placing animals in homes where they will be loved, protected, and properly cared for throughout their lives. We reserve the right to approve or decline adoption applications based on the individual needs of each animal and our responsibility to ensure suitable placements. We ask all potential adopters to understand that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment requiring time, patience, financial responsibility, and unconditional love. Thank you for choosing adoption and allowing an animal to become a cherished member of your family. Their next chapter begins with you!
