Aree's Story

Adoptable Dachshund Aree is a 5-year-old, 10-lb dachshund with a big personality packed into a tiny body. She’s confident, affectionate, and absolutely devoted to her people – you’ll never go to the bathroom alone again. Aree loves being involved in whatever you’re doing, whether that’s washing dishes, relaxing on the couch, or heading out for a walk.

Aree’s Forever Home Checklist ✅:
– A patient, dog-savvy adopter who understands her protective nature and spinal history, can continue working on her barking and nipping, and can offer space for the occasional zoomies.
– A gentle, submissive dog may be okay with slow introductions or Aree would shine as your one-and-only.
– Aree is a barker so a home without shared walls is required.
– Aree is recovering beautifully from IVDD surgery (mid-October). She can walk and run, though her form isn’t perfect yet. Additional physical therapy like acupuncture, massage, or water therapy would be a big plus.

Dog & People Relationships
Aree can live with other dogs, but slow introductions are a must. She’s dominant and enjoys “bitey-face” play, so supervision is important.

She currently lives peacefully with her small foster brothers (once they accepted her leadership!), but she’d also be perfectly happy as an only dog soaking up all the attention. She has no experience with large dogs.

With people, Aree is friendly when meeting new folks away from home, but near her home she can be protective – barking and occasionally nipping. Letting her approach at her own pace works best. She tends to warm up faster to women and kids, and does well with children 12+.

Walks, Training & Barking
Aree LOVES walks and walks nicely on a leash without pulling, a harness is recommended due to her past IVDD surgery. She does bark when she sees unfamiliar dogs, people, or even birds, and may pull toward them – some continued training will help here. True to dachshund form, she has a lot to say and will alert you to everything happening around her, making a single-family home ideal.

Home Life & Habits
Aree is fully house-trained and has had zero accidents. She uses an exercise pen as her safe space (set up with her bed, blankets, toys, and bowls) and relaxes there happily when her humans are away. She sleeps soundly in her own dog bed, often burrowed under blankets, and does not sleep in bed to protect her spine. She eats in her pen and shows no food or toy aggression.

Car Rides & Confidence
Aree loves car rides and prefers sitting on her human’s lap – she’s learning to use a pet car seat. She’s confident, not shy or anxious, and isn’t bothered by loud noises or thunder. She also doesn’t show any signs of separation anxiety.

Vetting and Medical
In our care, Aree has received vet checks, vaccines, dental exam, nail trimming, and is on monthly heartworm preventatives.

Aree received IVDD surgery along with a major dental cleaning. She has also been spayed. Aree is still recovering from her IVDD surgery in mid-October so she would benefit from some additional PT (acupuncture, massage, water treadmill or pool).

Medical Donations
We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

Adoptable Dachshund Aree – 5 years old, 10 pounds
Aree may only be 10 pounds but she’s got a big personality! She is a tiny, loving, protective companion with a huge heart. Adoption Fee: $325.

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.

Under 4 months $475
Under 1 $425
1-3 years $400
4-7 years $325
8-10 years $275
Over 10 $225
Special needs $150
