Apple and Empire's Story
Apple and Empire are an approximately 2-year-old bonded pair who must be adopted together. Empire is a female and Apple is a male, and their bond is undeniable. Empire is the more outgoing of the two, while Apple takes his cues from her and would truly struggle without her. They are a small pair, completely adorable, with excellent house manners and a growing love for comfort and closeness.

Both dogs are very shy in new situations and too several weeks to warm up in foster, but they did slowly relax and become comfortable. Once they feel safe, they are affectionate and cuddly, and they now sleep in bed spooning with their foster. Their foster describes them as dogs whose love must be earned, and that love is all the more meaningful because of it.

Apple and Empire do not walk on leash yet, but they are content in a fenced yard and tend to stick close when outside unconfined. They do well with other dogs and cats, though they would also be happy as an only pair. They can be barky and may escalate each other’s barking, and if startled they may revert to a flighty or avoidant response, though they are generally easy to handle once settled.

Nicknamed “the Dashers,” they have a funny quirk: they can’t resist charging out an open door—or charging right back in. Despite being cautious about the world, their curiosity often wins out.

Empire is outgoing, with a great little shape, an unforgettable waddle, and a bit of busybody charm. Apple is more shy but deeply affectionate, following Empire’s lead closely and becoming very unsure if separated from her. He adores treats and snuggling, and food is the fastest way to his heart.

Apple and Empire will thrive in a calm, stable home with predictable routines. A fenced yard is important, and a home without children is best. Other dogs or cats would be fine but are not required. People who work away from home could be a good fit, as long as they are patient and willing to give these two time to settle in. Both dogs love treats, and a well-stocked supply will help win their trust. Apple and Empire need each other, and they need adopters who understand that some bonds take time.

Thank you for considering an OTAT-WTX rescue! All pets are living in foster homes, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on core vaccines.

If you are interested in adopting, or for more information, please visit our website: https://otatwtx.org/how-to-adopt
