Apollo - TRAINED DOG 's Story
Apollo came to our program through his finder in central FL. We think he's only a year old, he's a very young dog.

Apollo was being kept in very sad conditions as a puppy, isolated from the world without any access to other dogs or people. He was confined to a small cage indoors where he often had to sit in his own filth for hours. The finder of Apollo was able to get the original owner to surrender him. His foster dad and family over several months got Apollo healthy again. But, because of his very sheltered upbringing, Apollo is fearful of a lot of new environments. He is really struggling at our prison program which is often very busy. He is terrified of the gun range we have nextdoor which he has to hear every single day.

Despite his traumatic past, he is a gentle, affectionate and very sweet boy. Once he feels comfortable in an area he loves to run full speed outdoors in a yard! He's a quiet boy who needs an adopter who is going to be patient and let him go slow to trust.

Apollo would rather run and hide than be confrontational when he's scared. Sometimes he'll "boooof" at people wearing sunglasses or a hat, but he's quick to warm up if you have a cookie for him.

Because of his slow to warm up temperment, Apollo will do best in a home with a fenced (privacy) yard. His foster home had two toddlers and he was totally ok with that! He never showed any aggression towards people or the young kids while in foster care. But he's not the kind of dog that wants to go walk the town with you. He wants a home where he can feel safe, and loved, and enough space to strech his legs and play. He does love to play with other dogs :)

This dog is currently participating in our prison dog training program in Miami, Florida.

Our dogs become available for adoption upon completion of their training program where they meet all the criteria to pass the following AKC certifications:

1. AKC (American Kennel Club) Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
2. AKC CGC-Advanced
3. AKC Trick Dog Novice

Go ahead, google all that :)

For more information about each of our dogs and our program send us a text to (305) 842-3974 or fill out an application on our website. Once we receive your application, you'll be invited to a zoom interview.

Learn more about our program and fillout an application at www.magiccityk9.org.

Please note that we require all prospective adopters to fill out an application at our website. The message you send through PetFinder (here) is not OUR application, it's an inquiry.
