Apalla's Story

Hi there... I'm Apalla, a 13-year-old cream terrier/poodle mix with soft curls and an even softer heart. I weigh about 25 pounds - just the right size to keep your lap warm and your feet company.

I've lived with cats and children before, and I've done well. I'll be honest though - I can be unsure around men and boys. I'm not mean, just cautious. If you introduce me slowly and gently, I'll do my best. I just need time to feel safe.

These days I enjoy the simple things. I like spending my day inside with you or relaxing in a secure, fenced yard. I used to love playing fetch and tug-of-war, and I still might surprise you with a little spark now and then - but mostly I'm a nap-in-the-sunbeam kind of girl. At night, I sleep on the human bed or on my own cozy bed right beside you. Being near my person makes me feel secure.

I'm housetrained but have to admit my biggest fault is pulling on the leash. I may bark or growl at other dogs but mostly I am just overexcited by them. If I'm left alone in the car, I'll bark at people walking by. I'm protective and I bond deeply.

I do need a little help getting in and out of cars now - age has added some wisdom and a bit of stiffness.

Worth noting is that I came to SDRO in bad shape and am on the road to recovery. I had fleas so am missing some fur on my rump and I do have a dental appt. on March 3. Other than that, I am a healthy gal.

My ideal home?
A calm person who wants a loyal companion by their side. Someone who is home often. Someone patient. Someone who understands that at my age, I don't need adventure - I need security, routine, and the comfort of knowing I am truly loved.

If you're looking for a quiet, devoted shadow to share your days, I'm right here.
