Andy's Story

Andy is an 8-year-old male Poodle, weighing about 12 pounds, with a soft apricot/beige curly coat and an even softer heart. He is neutered and has average grooming needs to keep his curls looking their best.

Andy came to Dogworks after being found as a stray and taken to a local shelter. When he arrived, his condition told a heartbreaking story — he was so severely matted that he could barely walk and was unable to potty properly. The shelter had to sedate him to shave him, removing nearly a pound and a half of painful, neglected fur. Despite everything he endured, Andy remains incredibly loving and gentle.

Andy would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. He has noticeable separation anxiety, likely due to the neglect he experienced before rescue, and he thrives when he can stay close to his people. Andy’s favorite activities include cuddling on the couch, sleeping next to his person, and quietly keeping an eye on his humans. He bonds deeply and quickly once trust is built and is truly a devoted companion.

This sweet older gentleman is affectionate, loyal, gentle, and dignified, with a playful side that’s slowly emerging as he learns how to be a dog again. He enjoys the company of other dogs and is quick to cuddle up with them. Toys are still new to him, but he’s beginning to explore them. Walking on a leash is a work in progress, as many outdoor sights and sounds can still be scary for him.

When meeting new people, Andy may initially cower, but he warms up fairly quickly with patience and kindness. He doesn’t require much correction and generally wants nothing more than to please. Andy is crate trained, though he doesn’t love it — he may cry or bark at first but does settle after some time. He is currently working on potty training.

Andy would require a secure, six-foot privacy fence and would do well in a home with other calm dogs. His compatibility with cats and young children is currently unknown.

Andy is a total love bug who has been through far too much and is ready for the next chapter of his life — one filled with safety, consistency, and unconditional love. With the right person, Andy will be a fiercely loyal companion who gives kisses freely and loves with his whole heart.

He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

His adoption fee is $150.

Please follow the link below for the adoption application. DogWorks Inc. Canine Rescue and Placement's Adoption Policy
Dogworks strives to place dogs into permanent homes based on the dogs' personalities and yours. To adopt a dog, we require a completed application, signed adoption contract, and home visit. Applications can be submitted online, by mail, or in person at adoption events. Once your application has been submitted, we will contact your references and consider suitability. You will be contacted by phone or email, typically within 4 business days, to make arrangements for adoption. If a particular dog is not placed with you, it does not mean that your application has been rejected. Dogworks receives multiple applications for some dogs. Foster families always have the first option to adopt. We do not approve applications on a first come basis as we strive for placement that is best for the dog and adoptive family. The home environment, family composition and yard are very important considerations in our decision to place a dog in a home. Some dogs do not do well with young children or cats, and our hounds require a fenced yard as examples of our decision process. Adoption fees are variable (typically $125-$500.00) and are listed with the description of each dog. All fees collected are used to cover rescue expenses, including foster care and veterinary expenses. Adoption fee will be refunded if you decide that the dog is not compatible with your family within 2 weeks. All dogs have received age appropriate vaccinations, GI dewormer, and heartworm test prior to adoption if they are old enough. Adult dogs and puppies older than 12 weeks are spayed/neutered. Adopters of younger puppies may be required to sign an agreement to complete spay/neuter by 5 months of age. We will assist with spay/neuter costs. All of our dogs and puppies will be microchipped prior to adoption. Adopters will receive a copy of medical records when adoption contract has been signed and adoption fees have been paid in full. Requirements for adoption: Please be aware that your adoption application WILL NOT be approved by Dogworks unless ALL of these criteria are met: >Adopters must be within a one hour radius of Toledo. >Adopters must be at least 21 years of age. >Veterinary reference must be positive. >All dogs in the home must be spayed/neutered. >All members of the household must be in agreement to adopt. >Individual needs of the dog must be met in prospective home (e.g., fully fenced yard for all hounds).
