Amelie's Story

Meet Amelie! This spicy & sweet pup transferred to us from Long Beach Animal Care Services.
Amelie and her brother (Sarge) were a suspected owner relinquishment to the Long Beach shelter, due to undisclosed circumstances. They were malnourished but bouncy pups looking for a new lease on life.
Due to being overcapacity, and the likelihood of contracting contagious diseases, underage pups cannot enter the general population and must be transferred to a rescue or foster immediately. A same-day exit request was made. Due to the drive time, we would be unable to make it before they closed. Thankfully, Sarge & Amelie received a 12-hour extension as a shelter staff member was able to take them overnight. We made the transfer commitment the following day and took the 4-hour roundtrip to exit Sarge & Amelie and bring them into foster care.
Sarge has since been adopted. At the time of transfer, Amelie was only 2lbs. As of 9/23/25, Amelie is 16lbs! She is an active and sweet girl enjoying an animal focused foster home that she shares with 5 dogs, one foster dog (Penny), and 4 cats!
She is currently learning dog behavior and manners from the other dogs, explodes with energy during playtime, sits before her snacks & meals, sleeps hard during nap time, and is mostly potty-pad trained while in her playpen.
We are looking for a home who understands and is ready for how much work it is to raise a puppy to be the best they can be! At Amelie's foster home she is eating 4 meals a day, at 4-hour intervals (with snacks & chews in between), is taken outside for supervised potty & play every 2-3 hours, wakes up in the middle of the night to alert her foster for a potty break need every 4-5 hours. Amelie gets to hang out with and meet plenty of dogs, cats, and visitors both in her foster home and at the work office she resides in while her foster works the day away while prioritizing her schedule & needs.
If you have an active household and are ready for the puppy grind and training/activity needs of a puppy that has some working breed dog in her, this girl is for you!

Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.
