Alvin's Story

Meet Alvin! Alvin is a handsome boy with a gentle heart who is ready to find someone special to call his own. While he may take a little time to build trust, once he gets to know you, his affectionate side shines through. Volunteers describe him as sweet, calm, easy to walk, and a dog who truly enjoys spending time with his people.

Alvin loves attention, pets, and cuddling up close to his favorite person. Many of his walks end with him happily soaking up affection in the gazebo rather than focusing on toys or play. He walks nicely on leash, enjoys leisurely sniffing adventures, and has earned plenty of compliments for his calm and gentle demeanor. Volunteers consistently note what a sweetheart he is and how much he enjoys treats, ear rubs, and quality time with people he trusts.

In his previous home, Alvin was reported to be house-trained, slept comfortably in a kennel through the night, and had excellent manners around the house. He ate well, was gentle when taking treats, and knew cues like "sit" and, at times, "leave it." His former adopter described him as calm, quiet, and incredibly loyal, sharing that he loved staying close by and was happiest spending one-on-one time with his person.

Alvin is now looking for an adult-only home where he can be the only pet. Although he did well in many aspects of home life, living with children wasn't the right fit for him, as he became increasingly protective of them over time. Alvin seems happiest when he has a person of his own to bond closely with, and we believe an adult-only home where he can continue building trust will help set him up for success. If you're looking for a loyal companion who enjoys quiet walks, plenty of affection, and simply being by your side, Alvin may be the perfect match.

Alvin at a Glance

Age: 5 years old
Favorite Activities: Leisurely walks, sniffing adventures, cuddling, relaxing with his favorite person, and earning treats.
Training: appears to be house-trained, walks nicely on leash, knows "sit," and responds to "leave it" at times.
Personality: Sweet, calm, affectionate, loyal, and forms strong bonds with the people he trusts.

See more of his personality, charm, and everyday moments here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1YOEI0eqx9a_D_bBhnOts3Wsp0ckMnEt

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
