One of our compassionate New Mexico rescuers saved the life of this very sweet Poodle / Maltese mix with hopes of transporting him to Colorado and a wonderful new life. Alfie was initially transferred to a loving foster home where he began to learn about trust and nurturing. Now comfortable in his surroundings, Alfie has become a precious cuddle-bug with hopes of becoming the love of a special Colorado family's life.<br/><br/>Alfie, at between 5 and 6 years old and 20lbs, is such a great age. He's old enough to have left his babyish behaviors behind and young enough to have many, many healthy and lovable years remaining. Our sweet Alfie would love nothing more then to warm his favorite people's laps and bring tons of love and silliness to their lives.<br/><br/>Alfie is a devoted and smart little guy. A much more relaxed and comfortable Alfie is emerging since he's been in his foster home. Initially this poor little dog was terribly frightened due to all the changes in his life, but with patience and love, he's truly blossoming! Alfie has made progress each and every day with his foster family and has become a well-adjusted pup who is open to new relationships and adventures.<br/><br/>Alfie is such a fun and silly guy that we hope his new family will choose to spend lots of time enjoying his antics. The days when Alfie's foster mom comes home from errands, she's greeted by a very joyous and loving Alfie..giving kisses and a happy hello.<br/><br/>Farfel's Rescue has made the decision that we'd like to see Alfie in a home with loving and devoted retirees that spends lots of time at home, or enjoy taking their furry best friend along on their adventures. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a good choice for this people-loving guy. Alfie is a perfect take-along sized pup. It's so easy to just scoop him up and snuggle him in your arms. He enjoys the car and is very happy riding strapped into his car seat so he can watch the activity going on outside his window.<br/><br/>Alfie is at his absolute best with dog-crazy adults. He's much more comfortable with their quiet kind of energy. We don't think this little guy will be at his best with young children. Older kids however, who can participate in Alfie's care and training, would be a great choice to be loving members of Alfie's family.<br/><br/>Alfie enjoys other dogs that are respectful of his smaller size but doesn't require these relationships to be happy. He's just fine either way as long as his human family is loving and present in his life.<br/><br/>Alfie is a non-shedding dog (perfect for allergy sufferers) and will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately once every 8 - 10 weeks) and excellent nutrition. A daily salmon oil supplement coupled with 5 star food will keep this little guy's hair cottony-soft and shining with excellent health.<br/><br/>Alfie has been fully vetted, vaccinated and neutered to support Farfel's commitment to excellent health in our dogs and zero population growth in the canine community.<br/><br/>Alfie will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 4/29/2026.
