Aldi's Story

***NOTE: This pet is currently at the shelter in Republic, WA, and can be delivered to an approved adopter on our 1/17/26 adopted pet transport to North Bend, WA to begin a 30-day trial placement – part of our distance adoption program.***

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/application

Please do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Aldi is a sweet, sensitive 3-year-old mixed-breed girl with a soft heart and a shy spirit. She comes from a large group of dogs abandoned in a remote mountain area, where they survived with very little human contact. Thankfully, a few of them, including Aldi, were brought into our adoption program so they could finally experience comfort, safety, and love.

Because Aldi and her friends grew up without proper socialization, the world is still a very new and overwhelming place for her. She’s timid and cautious at first, but every day she surprises us with her quiet bravery. Aldi is settling beautifully into the rhythm of shelter life, and we’re confident she will thrive in a calm, predictable home where she can blossom at her own pace.

Aldi dreams of a patient and gentle family, people who will cheer her on as she discovers all the wonderful parts of being a beloved companion. She may benefit from having a cozy crate or quiet corner as her safe retreat, as long as it’s introduced slowly and kept open so she can come and go as she pleases.

She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and did very well during her nose-to-nose greeting with a cat through our screened catio, so she may be able to live with a friendly feline after proper introductions.

Aldi weighs just under 70 pounds, has a calm, easygoing energy, and is still figuring out “toys.” She absolutely adores gentle attention and affection, and is learning that love isn’t scary at all!

Aldi is housetrained, enjoys spending time with familiar people and dogs, and is working on keeping all four paws on the ground (she sometimes forgets and jumps up for affection, but it’s easily redirected).

With one mostly blue eye, she may have a little husky or Australian shepherd in her, but the rest of her mix is a sweet mystery.

Welcoming Aldi into your life means embracing a rewarding and heart-warming journey. She’s like a sheltered toddler discovering the world for the first time: everything is new, and every small victory is worth celebrating. If you’re willing to guide her gently, Aldi will repay you with trust, devotion, and the joy of watching her transformation.

If you have a calm home, a patient heart, and space for a shy girl learning how to be loved, Aldi may be the perfect companion for you.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Aldi is a suggested minimum of $150 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
