Adonis's Story

Dear reader,

My name is Nakia, I am not only the Director of Adoptions here at Every Last One rescue but Adonis is also my foster puppy.

Although unconventional, I wanted to write a letter to anyone reading this who may be interested in adopting Adonis so I have the time to truly explain what a special soul he is.

At 4.5 months old and about 40 lbs, Adonis is a quirky, hilarious, stunning and VERY inteliigent boy. But under everything that makes Adonis wonderful, he is a dog who loves so intensely that it radiates into the hearts of his person and heals any anguish that may have lived there before meeting him.

Before I get into the how sappy Adonis will make you feel, please keep reading about the dog you'll meet at face value.

Aesthetically, Adonis is tall with long legs, pony paws and floppy limbs. Watching him bounce around is utter joy and I encourage anyone who adopts him to hold onto these moments because he'll be a mature, regal gentleman before you know it.

Adonis has 3 great loves in life, the first being training. Training Adonis is always magical because he is eerily intelligent and is able to master commands in record speed. In his first two weeks of foster care, Adonis mastered the following commands: sit, paw, lay, down, off, hush, speak, come and "okay" which is the command that gives him permission to take a treat. In addition to loving to show off his training skills, Adonis will head to his adoptive home fully potty trained outdoors and happy to use a weepad if.a walk is missed or he needs to go urgently although he gives many signs when he does have to go potty. Adonis is also fully crate trained including sleeping through the night in his crate without issue. Adonis is a loose leash walker and he checks in with his handler every 15-20 feet for a yummy treat, pets or affection while being unbothered yet curious about other dogs and completely unphased by new experiences and city sounds.

Adonis's second great love is life. Adonis is pretty certain that everyone on the planet is his friend, including kids, men, dogs and strangers even in the home. Adonis is an active participant in relationships with his humans and will provide reciprocal companionship - even engaging "conversations" when he is spoken to with sweet grumble. Adonis loves to experience life no matter how simple or how exciting. Adonis appreciates a 20 minute walk around the neighborhood just as much as he appreciates a day spent hiking, running or picnicking. Adonis would be a magnificent candidate for an active household, someone who loves outdoorsy adventures and who hopes to use their own hobbies to build a special, intimate, lifelong connecton with their dog

Adonis's final great love is YOU. I have fostered nearly 200 dogs in my lifetime, many of them puppies and Adonis is like no other. Adonis's ability to bond with his people is human like, unwavering and a rare ability that should not be taken for granted. When Adonis loves, he loves you despite your shortcomings and will love you and care for you even in moments when it's hard to love and care for yourself. Adonis's puppy lifestyle is far outweighed by who he inherently is deep in his soul. Adonis has an uncanny ability to make you feel like the only person in the room, on the street, in the whole wide world. Adonis believes his people went into space and hung the moon for him and will show up everyday completely indebted to them - wether that be smothering them with hugs, kisses and sitting on their lap at any given opportunity, laying as close as possible to you in the comfortable silence while you are in bed reading or watching tv or simply crawling closer to you to rest his sweet paw on your foot or your arm as you work from home. Adonis wants you to every minute of every waking hour that he loves you beyond measure and you are worthy. In a world where so many hearts are guarded, Adonis has no qualms showing his people how much he loves them.

Adonis is a joy to have in the home and is a daily reminder of how fulfilling life could be. His puppy confidence paired with his mature ability to show what unconditional selfless love truly is. Adopting out Adonis will likely be my greatest heartbreak to date while also being the best gift I could ever give to another human and the selflessness I will show letting him go was gifted to me by the healing Adonis has given me as his foster mom. I would love to pass the torch to someone who would care about him as deeply as I do and give him the lifestyle that I wish I could but know that I can't. If you've ever been told that your heart is good, your heart is pure and you deserve someone to show up for you the way you show up for them - please consider loving my boy, he won't let you down.

Sincerely,

A foster mom to the most special little boy there ever was.
