Addie's Story

Meet Addie! This gentle little Chihuahua has been quietly rewriting her own story, one brave step at a time. When she first arrived, she spent her days with "one little foot touching her bed," always ready to retreat if the world felt like too much. She was hesitant to eat, unsure about treats, and happiest tucked safely away rather than joining the pack. It was heartbreaking to watch her live as though she had to be prepared to disappear at any moment.

Addie came to Miri's Haven as part of a heartbreaking group of 15 Chihuahuas surrendered from one home. But these past few weeks have brought some pretty wonderful changes. Love, patience, and the steady encouragement of her four-legged friends have helped her discover that the world can be gentle, too. Her old motto of "one foot on the bed at all times" is now so last month. This girl runs with the pack, hangs out with her dog friends, and has become much more willing to be part of the action.

The yard is Addie's favorite place. She loves to sniff, wander, take her time, and enjoy all the pretty flowers and new friends. She's also discovered treats and has developed quite the appreciation for carrots, Greek yogurt, blueberries, and other "superfoods." After dinner, she patiently waits for her turn to join the cleanup crew, because quality assurance is very imPAWtent business. When the day's work is done, she'll happily curl up on the sofa if invited, tuck herself under a blanket in her bed, and sleep soundly through the night. She even prefers to sleep in a little in the morning, which frankly seems like a very sensible life choice.

Addie is a quiet little companion who doesn't need grand adventures or endless excitement. She'll walk short distances on the leash, although she prefers to explore at her own pace or ride in her stroller so she can take in the sights. She's good with both small and large dogs, and having a sweet canine companion in her forever home to show her the way and help her feel confident is a must. Addie loves sharing her bed and snuggling with her friends, and she's also great with children. She rides well in the car and doesn't mind staying home alone when her humans are out.

Like many senior dogs, Addie comes with a few maintenance requirements. She takes daily Cosequin, needs to be carried up stairs, and is mostly housebroken with pee pads as backup. She'll need a family willing to give her the time and patience to settle in and continue building her confidence, along with another sweet dog who can help show her that she is safe.

Addie doesn't need a life full of excitement. She just needs a life where she knows she's safe, loved, and never going to be left behind. And watching her discover that she can run with the pack, enjoy a treat, tuck herself under a blanket, and wake up knowing she is loved has been pretty wonderful.

If you're looking for a gentle little companion who will follow you around, curl up beside you, and slowly let you see more and more of her beautiful personality, Addie's waiting for you.

Addie is approximately 12 years old and 10 lbs.

Fostered in Ashburn, VA
Please apply at MirisHaven.org
