Achilles's Story

Meet Achilles

Some dogs spend their lives chasing tennis balls. Achilles has spent his chasing the people he loves.

At 13 (maybe 14, but who's counting?), Achilles found himself looking for a new family after being surrendered to Police. Thankfully, he got a second chance, and now he's hoping his retirement years are spent exactly where they should be... on someone's couch, stealing treats and soaking up love.

Achilles is the definition of an old soul. He's house trained, knows sit, stay, lay down, and come, and if you raise a treat in the air, he'll politely plant his butt on the ground before you even ask. He isn't interested in acting like a puppy. He's interested in being your best friend.

His favorite things are wonderfully simple. Car rides are at the top of the list. In fact, every car that drives by looks like a potential adventure, and he'd happily climb into just about any of them if given the chance. He enjoys leisurely walks, loves meeting people, does great with teenage older kids, and barely gives other dogs a second glance when out and about.

Around the house, Achilles still surprises everyone. Don't let the gray face fool you. He can hop onto the couch or your favorite chair without thinking twice. Sure, he's got a few lumps and bumps that come with being a seasoned gentleman, but they don't slow him down one bit. He appreciates a good snack, and is happiest simply being close to his people.

Achilles can be selective with other dogs in his grandpa years. He's a loyal guy who likes having his favorite person all to himself, and he'd love a family where someone is home often to keep him company. He isn't a fan of the crate, but honestly, after 13 years, he's earned the right to negotiate his retirement benefits.

Senior dogs have a way of loving differently. They don't care about keeping up with the world. They care about keeping up with you. They know how precious every day is, and somehow they teach us to appreciate those days right alongside them.

Achilles doesn't need a perfect family. He just needs someone willing to give an old boy the soft landing he deserves. In return, he'll fill your home with quiet companionship, unconditional love, and the kind of gratitude only a senior dog can give.

If you'd like to apply please visit rescueapittie.org!!
