26-101 Alfie's Story

Hello there everyone, I'm Alfie!

Have you noticed my ears? They're certainly a conversation starter! Now that I have your attention, may I interest you in a loving and loyal companion to love forever? ME!

I didn't start out life in the best of places, but I don't remember such things! I'm just happy little Alfie! I love people, I love dogs, and I love snuggles. My doggie foster siblings are teaching me important things about house life, and I am listening well. I'm still getting the hang of going potty outside, but my foster mom says I'm an excellent student!

When they rescued me, my tail was completely limp and I was unable to move it at all. The nice vet took an x-ray of it and determined that I had an avulsion and displacement of my tail from the caudal sacrum—meaning my tail was literally torn away from the base of my spine! We are going to let me grow some and not amputate right away since it doesn't bother me at all. I might need it amputated in the future but my doctor will reevaluate it when I get neutered in a few months

Typical of my breed, I'm one smart cookie! I learned how to use the doggie door within hours of arriving at my foster home AND I already know how to "Sit". I'm obsessed with these yummy doggie snacks I keep getting, so I'd love to learn other things so I get more of them! I think I will thrive in a home that will continue my training and provide fun enrichment to channel my curiousity.

These nice people think that I am about 4 months old, so I have some growing to do! I'll probably be over 60 lbs when I'm all grown up.

Since I am likely a full GSD I need an owner with experience in my breed. I definitely would like another dog in the home to play with, a fenced yard is a must and since I am still a baby an owner that is home a lot. My guess is some formal training is ideal to help me reach my full potential, too.

If you're interested in Alfie, fill out an application on our website at www.dsda.org/adopt.

ADOPTION FEE Covers: Core vaccines plus Lepto and Flu, all boosters, microchip, dewormer until clear fecal test & spay or neuter when completed by a DSDA vet partner plus any necessary medical care. All dogs are on flea, tick and heartworm prevention and you receive the following month's preventatives complementary with your adoption!

* Adoption Fees:

Puppies (12 months and under) - $325

Dogs (over 12 months) - $275

Qualifications for Adoption: No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.

Must be home more than not.
Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions.
Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address.
Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household.
Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting.
Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet.
Must have a secure fence if in a house.
All poisonous plants must be removed from the yard.
DSDA is located in Dallas and requires a home visit on every adoption so only adopt to Dallas and surrounding areas.
