24Tucker's Story

**Tucker will NOT be at Saturday adoption events and will be available for private meets only. If interested, please submit an application!**

Meet Tucker!
Sex: Male
Age: 10 Months Old

Dogs: Yes!
Kids: Yes! May do best with older kiddos as he is a big guy, who doesn't quite know how large he is.
Cats: Would do best with a dog savvy cat.
Crate Trained: Yes!
House Trained: Yes!

Tucker is a fun, happy boy who’s beginning to settle into training nicely. He’s showing great curiosity about his surroundings and a willingness to engage once he’s had time to take everything in. As he continues to gain structure and consistency, his focus and responsiveness will only improve.

Tucker’s sits are already very solid, he responds quickly and with enthusiasm. His downs are still a work in progress; he’ll sometimes follow the lure and settle for a few seconds before popping back up, especially when there’s a lot going on around him. We’re continuing to build duration and reliability in this command with short, successful repetitions to keep him engaged.

He can be excitable, occasionally jumping up for attention, but he’s learning that calm behavior earns praise and rewards.

Tucker’s recall has improved since his previous session. Working on a short leash, he’s already showing more attentiveness and quicker turnarounds when called. When distracted by scents, he may still need a little leash guidance, but he’s catching on quickly. Out at the park, his name recognition was strong for a new environment — he responded happily to most recalls, and when he needed help, a gentle leash assist was all it took to bring his attention back.

At the park, we focused heavily on loose leash walking since Tucker is naturally strong and eager to explore. Any time he hit the end of the leash, we practiced direction changes and short resets to encourage him to check in and follow along. By the end of the walk, he began to settle into the rhythm, walking more calmly at his handler’s side.

Tucker enjoyed taking in all the sights and smells at Johnson Springview. He’s very curious and observant but remains non-reactive — even when a neighbor’s dog barked at him from behind a fence, he simply looked and carried on. We spent time at a bench working on settling; within a few minutes, he chose to lay down on his own and calmly watched the world go by. This was a great sign of progress and growing comfort with stillness in busy environments.

Tucker is a sweet, social boy who’s starting to balance his natural enthusiasm with structure and self-control. His focus is improving each session, and he’s building a stronger connection with his handler. He’s making good progress, with time and routine, Tucker will continue to flourish!

Our adult dog adoption fee is $300 (with $5 processing fee if paid by card) and includes neuter, DAPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccines, deworming, microchip, and lifetime registration.
