Zoboomafoo's Story

Zoboomafoo is #ADOPTABLE from foster. Email adoptions@catnapsociety.com to apply for and meet Zoboomafoo.

Male, domestic medium hair, black with/grey shadow

Meet Zoboomafoo Our Gentle Giant with a Brave Heart

Zoboomafoo was named in honour of the beloved leaping lemur from the PBS show—and much like his namesake, his life has been a true adventure.

This gentle giant has every reason to be wary of people, yet he chooses love. Estimated to be around 10 years old when he came into care, Zoboomafoo previously lived the difficult life of an intact male cat. His past is reflected in his scars and medical challenges, including testing positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). His journey began with many unknowns, but what has always been certain is his incredibly sweet and resilient nature.

Zoboomafoo absolutely adores affection. He loves pets, brushing, and simply being with his people. One of his favourite places is right beside you—especially at bedtime when he does request that be allowed to sleep on your bed, he settles quietly at the end of the bed a promises he wont steal your covers.

Despite his past, he has a playful and kitten like side. He enjoys a variety of toys— catnip, crinkle balls, ping pong balls, chirping mice, springs, and his beloved grasshopper. Hell chase them with enthusiasm, proudly carrying his prizes in his mouth to share with you. His occasional zoomies are a heartwarming reminder of just how far he has come.

Zoboomafoo uses both cardboard scratchers and a sturdy cat tree, where he loves to perch at the top, watching the world or soaking up the sunshine. He would love to soak up the sunshine and the smell of fresh air from a secure catio but has no desire to return to the dangers of outdoor life.

He has a sweet little chirpy voice that will use to tell about his day or try to convince you that he hasnt had breakfast yet.

He is a big boy and although he doesnt have a mean bone in his body, other cats may find his size and his wanting to just sit and watch them intimidating. He would thrive as a solo cat companion, where he can fully devote himself to his special human.

If you have a large cat savvy dog looking for a friend Zoboomafoo may just be the perfect fit. He really took to the older calm golden retriever in the foster home, and even made quick friends with a visiting younger dog as well.

Zoboomafoo is comfortable being on his own when his people are out, making him a wonderful companion for many types of households.

Zoboomafoos story is one of resilience, trust, and love. Hes ready to find a home where he can finally enjoy the comfort, care, and companionship he has always deserved.

He will be very missed by his foster family, the journey was long but so worth it. Someone will be very lucky to call this gentle boy their very own. This quote from Winnie the Pooh captures their feelings perfectly:

"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."

To help Zoboomafoo settle into his new space, we recommend starting him off in a smaller safe room so he can adjust gradually and feel safe. Reading the Rule of Three document included with the adoption resources will help you help Zoboomafoo settle in.

Ideal Home
Zoboomafoo would be a great companion kitty, he is chatty and loyal. Plays well on his own but also loves being with his people. He wants to sleep on the bed at night. He would appreciate a safe secure catio where he can enjoy some fresh air but stay safe from the world out he doesnt want to go back out on the street.

Compatibility
Cats: No, even though he doesnt mean to be, Zoboomafoo can be intimidating to other cats. He is a large cat and will sit watching/staring at other cats which they dont take kindly to. He would do very well as a solo cat
Dogs: Yes, Zoboomafoo enjoyed the company of the cat savvy, calm senior golden retriever in the foster home as well as a couple other larger cat friendly dogs that visited.
Kids: Patient, calm, cat savvy older tweens and teens who would like to play with him would be fine. Younger children are not a good fit as Zoboomafoo can get a little over excited at times but is easily redirected.

Age
Estimated age: 10 1/2 years

Veterinary Information
Zoboomafoo has been neutered
Zoboomafoo tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) when he came into CatNap's care. The virus causes a weakened immune system and is primarily transmitted by deep bite wounds from another cat. However, cats with FIV can live long, happy lives in a low-stress home with good-quality food and regular veterinary exams. FIV positive cats must stay indoors-only, which Zoboomafoo is happy to do.
For additional information about FIV check out the links below:
https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/feline-immunodeficiency-virus-infection
Zoboomafoo was diagnosed with Pododermatitis (pillow foot) when he came into CatNaps care. It is a feline immune-mediated disease causing soft, swollen, and sometimes ulcerated paw pads. Zoboomafoo had a severe care but was successfully treated. Pododermatitis can be well controlled but not cured entirely. Re-occurrences can happen and if it does treatment will be necessary. Regular vet care will be important for Zoboomafoo to ensure he stays healthy.
Zoboomafoo experienced and was treated upper respiratory infection while in foster care and has since recovered well. This is usually caused by the feline herpes simplex virus and is very common in rescued cats and kittens. We helped manage this kitty cold by adding a common amino acid supplement, lysine, to wet food daily. A cat may have a flare-up of symptoms in future due to stress, such as a change of environment such as an adoption centre and/or new home. A document explaining this in more detail will be included with the health record card given at time of adoption.
Zoboomafoos bloodwork shows that he has stage 2 early kidney disease. He is currently doing well and no treatment is necessary. Ensuring he gets adequate water, easily done by adding water to his canned food (which he loves) and giving him a stainless steel water fountain. Regular bloodwork should be done in consultation with the adopters vet.
Zoboomafoo was found to have a grade 2 out of 6 heart murmur while in our care, and bloodwork was done for him. The testing was with in normal limits, showing no issues at this time. Full veterinary records and the cardiac report is available to the adopters veterinarian of choice upon request.
Zoboomafoo recently had a comprehensive dental procedure done including several extractions and cleaning/polishing were done. He has good oral health currently. A home oral hygiene regimen such as daily tooth brushing, oral gel, water additive or dental care products to reduce bacteria and plaque buildup is recommended. Your vet can advise on the best products to help with dental care
Zoboomafoo came into CatNaps care with eye issue called entropion where the eyelids roll inwards, causing painful friction with the surface of the eye. This can lead to scratches, ulcers, and infection and therefore he required entropion surgery, on both eyes, to correct the issue. Although he has healed well and is no longer experiencing issues with her eyelids, he has experienced mildly weepy eyes on occasion (especially his right eye). A common amino-acid supplement called lysine has been found to be very beneficial to help with the situation. More information on this will accompany his Health Record Card on dose and where to purchase.
Vaccinated for FVRCP and Feline Leukemia
Microchipped
Deflead and dewormed
Six weeks of pet insurance
Health record card
Specific diagnostic testing may also have been done as each cat's health may warrant while in CatNap's care.
