Working Barn Cats's Story

Looking for Natural Pest Control?
Adopt a barn cat — and let them earn their keep while you save a life!

Our rescue has working barn cats in need of safe outdoor homes, within 1 hour drive of the Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Greensville areas. These cats come from a variety of backgrounds: some are living in dangerous conditions, are at risk of extermination, while others face euthanasia at shelters due to being unsocialized or simply overlooked. Many are friendly, but not suited for indoor living.

They make excellent natural rodent and vermin control for barns, farms, stables, warehouses, and other similar properties.

Cats will come spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated, and ready to start their new lives as working cats. In return, they just need a safe shelter, daily food and water, and a bit of patience as they settle in.

We highly recommend adopting cats in pairs. This ensures they have each other for companionship and protection, and it minimizes the stress of introducing unfamiliar cats to each other.

We will transport the cats directly to your location – NO MEETING, NO PICKUPS, NO EXCEPTIONS!! When the cats are delivered, an on-site assessment will be conducted to ensure your structure and shelter meets the necessary requirements for a safe and successful acclimation. If either party feels uncertain or uncomfortable about the placement, we will take the cats back to the rescue without any hard feelings. Our priority is always the well-being of the cats.

We may request a video of your site in advance to assess the best acclimation plan for the cats before transport.

You will be responsible for providing the necessary equipment for acclimation, unless we agree beforehand to loan any items.

The acclimation must occur inside a structure that will be their safe home that they come back to after they are released. Acclimation completely outdoors that leaves the cats vulnerable and without protection from predators and other risks IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED!!

60 days to acclimate:

First 30 days: Complete containment in a crate or similar enclosure inside a secure building or structure. Good example would be inside a barn that can be closed, and then inside a stall or smaller room within that that can be closed, then the containment crate. This provides triple protection: the crate, the enclosed room, and the overall building This minimizes chance of escaping to the outside and running off.

Second 30 days: This is the “soft release” which means they can be let out of the containment crate, but still contained to the room within the building or structure with no access to outside.

After 60 days: You may proceed with the “hard release” allowing the cats to go outside. By now they should see the acclimation area as their home, and will return for meals and shelter.

If you're interested in adopting barn cats, please email the rescue at no.critter.left.behind252@gmail.com

Specify “Barn Cats” in your email and on your adoption application, as well as number of cats you would like and any other preferences. An adoption application, along with details on the adoption and screening process, will be sent to you.

For any additional questions, feel free to call 504-330-3177.
