Whiskey's Story

Whiskey is a 1 and a half year old tabby-calico girl. She was rescued in the Bronx by Bronx Community Cats in November of 2024, and Eccentric Kittens took her and her sisters in. Whiskey waited crated for a long 6 months to be chosen by her forever family, but when adopters finally chose her, they returned her after a couple of weeks saying “they didn’t bond with her.” After being returned, she became hissy and withdrawn, when she was previously gentle and sweet. My partner and I have been fostering Whiskey since the beginning of November and she has made incredible strides. You can see her progress on instagram @whiskeythefosterkitty

Whiskey is smart, chatty, expressive, playful, athletic, beautiful, loyal, and friendly. She loves to play with her wand toy with you, and she’s incredibly fast at catching it. When she’s especially proud of a catch she makes, she takes the wand toy in her mouth and struts around with lots of pride. Playing with her was a great way to build her confidence when she first came to us terrified. Whiskey is VERY food motivated - she cheeps and squeaks when it’s breakfast or dinner time. She also loves her freeze dried chicken and salmon treats, as well as churu. We used this to our advantage getting her to warm up to us. Whiskey loves to pace around back and forth for pets and headbutt your hand. She does not like to be picked up, and she hasn’t gotten o the point of sitting in our laps just yet. I wouldn’t describe her as the most snuggly, but she does seek out pets, and I could see her becoming more snuggly over time with a person she trusts. Whiskey loves to chat with us and tell us how she’s feeling. She will meow and bring her wand toy to you; she will gently squeak when you’ve stopped petting her and she wasn’t ready to be done petting; and she will always meow to greet you. Although she isn’t the most snuggly, don’t let that fool you, she will absolutely be your shadow, sitting nearby you at all times.

Whiskey is a slow-burn cat. She needs a home where someone understands that good things can take a little time. She needs someone with patience that isn’t going to toss her away if she isn’t instantly their lap cat. Re-socializing her and showing her how to trust humans again has been incredibly rewarding & we would love to see her continue her journey of learning to trust again in her forever home. She made amazing progress in just a month, and I know that she will continue to thrive in her forever home. Whiskey could go as a solo cat, or to a home with another cat - she’s very cat friendly and would probably thrive with a playmate. If she was adopted solo, she would need ample play time with her wand toy.

You can see Whiskey’s re-socializing journey and videos of her shining personality on instagram @whiskeythefosterkitty

Eccentric Kittens's Adoption Policy
Single kitten adoptions are available to homes with current age appropriate resident felines. Adults and kittens 6 months of age and older are available to homes as single pets. We do not adopt out kittens younger than 8 weeks of age. All cats are dewormed, treated for fleas, tested for FIV/FELV and negative unless otherwise noted, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. Kittens too young to be spayed/neutered and still needing boosters on vaccines will be arranged by the rescue once old enough. Our adoption fee is $250 for a single cat, or $500 for a pair, which goes towards the above vetting and allows us to continue rescuing new cats.
