Walter's Story

If you’ve visited the Franklin Township Animal Shelter, you’ve surely seen our friend Walter in the adoptable cat room. He loves to reach his paw out as if to say, “Hey, I’d like to meet you!” Walter is a single guy around one year old who is looking for his forever valentine. He enjoys carrying toys in his mouth, playing with visitors’ hair, and begging for cat treats.

It’s important for any potential adopter to know that Walter has tested positive for feline coronavirus. Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is a common virus in cats, usually causing no symptoms or mild symptoms like diarrhea (which he currently does not have), but it can mutate into a deadly form called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Most cats clear the infection, but some become persistent carriers, shedding the virus and potentially increasing the risk of FIP in multi-cat environments.

For this reason, Walter should be the only cat in the household unless you already have a cat who tested positive for FCoV. Right now he is asymptomatic and ready to be adopted. We’re hoping that there’s someone out there who is willing to give Walter a loving forever home. The shelter is open for adoptions Tuesday-Friday 12-3 and Saturdays 12-6.
