Walker's Story
Meet Walker! Walker came to us when we got a report about a neighborhood cat who seemed to have trouble getting around. He was wobbly, and his back end would sway from side to side. We assumed he might have some sort of neurological issue, but the culprit is actually his back - he has arthritis or an old spinal injury near the case of his spine that causes him chronic pain and makes him sway from side to side.

Happily, we found a joint supplement that really seems to help him. His wobbles are greatly reduced, and he is able to run and even jump. He is still very sensitive about being touched on his hind end, and often won't groom himself back there, so we do keep his back shaved to help avoid matting.

Walker is a funny boy. We sometimes call him our Walky-Talky, as he likes to meow at us while he stalks around the center. His favorite place is the cat trees by the door, where he'll stretch out and catch some sun rays. He enjoys playing with toys, especially crinkly balls, catnip mice, and cat teasers. Walker will patrol the entire center for any pests. He is a watchful and capable hunter, despite his injury, and has actually caught a couple of mice snacking on the cat food we keep in the back.

Walker likes head scritches and will tolerate some petting around his shoulders and neck, too. He has firm boundaries, but if you meet him where he's at, he can be a sweet and loving companion. He also doesn't mind brushing, even on his sensitive back end.

Walker does not get along well with other cats. He can be territorial with them. Because he can bite when his hind end is touched, we would not recommend him for a home with small children. He has not been tested with dogs.

Walker is estimated to be about 4 years old as of February 2026. He has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. With an approved application, his adoption fee is waived due to a generous sponsor.

If you are interested in adopting this particular cat or kitten, please see our Adoption Guidelines at http://www.humanesocietyall.com/applications/ .
