Immediately after being rescued from the shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized he was transported to our vet to begin his wellness journey. Skinny, coat thin-almost bare in some places, terrible teeth and gums, yet his eyes are brilliant gold and show hope and a desire to thrive.

After an exam it was decided to start Victor Hugo's health journey with a full dental exam , cleaning and extractions of the worst teeth. He had four teeth removed that first day. He also had a full senior blood panel ordered and a SNAP test performed. Snap test told us that Victor Hugo is FIV positive. FIV is essentially feline aids...but don't worry, it's not a death sentenance. Victor Hugo has a strong will to live. We await the results of his bloodwork.

Now Victor Hugo is in a foster home we are able to observe his personality and other behaviors which will help us on his course to being fully adoptable. So far we've observed he has a very hearty appetite, likes to be brushed and petted. He has a spunky and playful nature. He purrs and makes biscuits!

Victor Hugo really needs sponsors to help cover the costs of his veterinary costs. If you can donate towards Victor Hugo and his veterinary care, here are a few of the ways you can help:

Paypal: thefaunafoundation@gmail.com

Venmo: @Melinda-Singer-2

zelle: 8189848200

We can take checks as well. Ode to a Cat with a Heart of Fire, Victor Hugo
You were no ordinary feline,
but a storm in just the right amount of dishelved fur,
a velvet-clawed tempest
who strutted through my life
like the frontman of a thunderous band,
howling truth through your eyes
louder than any amp ever dared.
You had the leather-jacket grin
of Johnny Depp in his prime —
pirate soul, vagabond heart,
a smirk that dared the world to try you.
And God help the world if it did.
You judged, oh yes —
with the withering glare of a Paris maître d’
when the wine was wrong,
and the nerve was worse.
Your disdain was legendary.
But your love…
your love was cathedral-deep,
a sanctuary of purrs and silence,
a place where I could fall apart
and know I’d still be whole
because you saw me.
We met at the edge —
your clock ticking down,
my heart running on fumes.

But from that first wild ride,
you were mine,
and I was yours,
bonded in the chaos,
two rebels with a cause:
to love each other
more fiercely than the world expected.
And when the fires came,
you didn’t run under a bed.
Purrs loud and strong. You steadied me,
grounded me with your eyes,
and in that smoke-stung night,
it was you who saved me.
I worry now , Victor Hugo—
that it was all too much.

The Fauna Foundation's Adoption Policy
Currently, we have many kittens and several adults available for adoption. Our adoptables may change frequently so please check back to find your perfect match. Due to the special care we give all of our adoptable animals we will require a pre-adoption form to be filled out and submitted. The pre-adoption is merely informational , it doesn't require you to adopt NOR does it mean the animal your interested in would be the best animal for you. Once we've received the pre-adoption form we can set up a meet and greet with the animal(s) you're interested in. Normally we might require a home-check, although due to the pandemic we are willing to make other arrangements such as a facetime, video or photo virtual home check. We do request an adoption donation. In general kittens and cats are $150-$175 and up. Dogs in general are $250 and up Other animals vary. Sometimes an animal will have a sponsor so the adoption fee might be lower. In Oct/Nov we typically will lower our senior cat adoption donation. Special needs animals have varying suggested donation amounts requested-however we might provide medication, food, special beds, etc to help get those SPECIAL animals into homes. Some of our animals have "fairy godmothers" who crochet blankets, or provide beds, toys, litter , boxes or carriers for the animal to take with them to their new home. Every animal goes to their new home with a small supply of their current food. All of our animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. Our relationship with the animal doesn't end once they are in your home. We will be here for you to answer questions, give suggestions and offer up any assistance you might need now or in the future for the well being of your pet. You and the pet will be forever part of our family. The Fauna Foundation is located in the hills of Malibu. Many of our adoptable kittens and cats are in foster homes, however we do have adoptable cats at the sanctuary. All visits must be pre-arranged. We aren't set up to accommodate drop in visitors.
