update: Victor Hugo <br/>2006-2025<br/>Ode to a Cat with a Heart of Fire, Victor Hugo<br/>You were no ordinary feline,<br/>but a storm in just the right amount of dishelved fur,<br/>a velvet-clawed tempest<br/>who strutted through my life<br/>like the frontman of a thunderous band,<br/>howling truth through your eyes<br/>louder than any amp ever dared.<br/>You had the leather-jacket grin<br/>of Johnny Depp in his prime —<br/>pirate soul, vagabond heart,<br/>a smirk that dared the world to try you.<br/>And God help the world if it did.<br/>You judged, oh yes —<br/>with the withering glare of a Paris maître d’<br/>when the wine was wrong,<br/>and the nerve was worse.<br/>Your disdain was legendary.<br/>But your love…<br/>your love was cathedral-deep,<br/>a sanctuary of purrs and silence,<br/>a place where I could fall apart<br/>and know I’d still be whole<br/>because you saw me.<br/>We met at the edge —<br/>your clock ticking down,<br/>my heart running on fumes.<br/>But from that first wild ride,<br/>you were mine,<br/>and I was yours,<br/>bonded in the chaos,<br/>two rebels with a cause:<br/>to love each other<br/>more fiercely than the world expected.<br/>And when the fires came,<br/>you didn’t run under a bed.<br/>Purrs loud and strong.You steadied me,<br/>grounded me with your eyes,<br/>and in that smoke-stung night,<br/>it was you who saved me.<br/>I worry now , Victor Hugo—<br/>that it was all too much.<br/>That the world asked too much<br/>of your tired, noble bones.<br/>But you never let it show.<br/>You wore your pain<br/>like stage makeup,<br/>concealed by courage<br/>and an unbreakable will<br/>to be there<br/>for me.<br/>You left in my arms,<br/>our breaths mingling,<br/>your soul whispering into mine.<br/>It was an exit worthy of you —<br/>intimate, defiant, profound.<br/>I miss you more than words allow.<br/>But I know you made a difference —<br/>to me,<br/>to others,<br/>to the people who cared, your fellow feline friends.<br/>Rock on, wild soul.<br/>Sleep now, leather prince.<br/>And wait for me —<br/>at the edge of the stage,<br/>in that final encore,<br/>where love never diesAbandoned at the animal shelter, Victor Hugo is in rough shape. Immediately after being rescued from the shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized he was transported to our vet to begin his wellness journey. Skinny, coat thin-almost bare in some places, terrible teeth and gums, yet his eyes are brilliant gold and show hope and a desire to thrive. <br/><br/>After an exam it was decided to start Victor Hugo's health journey with a full dental exam , cleaning and extractions of the worst teeth. He had four teeth removed that first day. He also had a full senior blood panel ordered and a SNAP test performed. Snap test told us that Victor Hugo is FIV positive. FIV is essentially feline aids...but don't worry, it's not a death sentenance. Victor Hugo has a strong will to live. We await the results of his bloodwork.<br/><br/>Now Victor Hugo is in a foster home we are able to observe his personality and other behaviors which will help us on his course to being fully adoptable. So far we've observed he has a very hearty appetite, likes to be brushed and petted. He has a spunky and playful nature. He purrs and makes biscuits!<br/><br/>Victor Hugo really needs sponsors to help cover the costs of his veterinary costs.
