Venus's Story

Please meet Venus, a beautiful dilute tortie who is looking for something she's never truly had: a quiet, safe place to call home.

A dilute tortie is a tortoiseshell cat whose black and orange coloring has been softened by a dilution gene, giving her coat lovely shades of gray, cream, and soft peach. It's like a tortie painted in pastels and Venus is absolutely beautiful.

Venus came to us at the start of August, brought in by a local grassroots rescue. She is a 2 year old mama who was found living in a barn with her six kittens. As if raising six babies wasn't enough, Venus was also dealing with pesky ringworm.

But this devoted mama did what she needed to do. She cared for her kittens until they were old enough to become independent and once they no longer needed her, it was finally Venus's turn.

Her turn to be cared for.
Her turn to feel safe.
Her turn to find a home of her own.

Unfortunately, shelter life has been overwhelming for Venus. From her cage, she can hear the shelter dogs barking through the walls. There are unfamiliar people walking by, strange smells surrounding her, and so many new sights and sounds.

When the world feels like too much, Venus often retreats to the one place that feels familiar and secure to her: her litterbox.

And that's okay.

Venus isn't a cat who needs to be rushed. She's a special girl who needs a special adopter. She needs someone who understands that trust takes time and who will patiently show her that she is finally safe.

Why Venus?
We named her Venus, after the bright and beautiful planet, but there's something especially fitting about her name. Venus doesn't need to be the brightest or boldest presence in the room. Right now, she's more like a little light hidden behind the clouds, waiting for the right person to give her the time and space to shine.

Her forever person may need to look past the frightened girl they see today and imagine the cat she could become once she feels secure.

Venus needs someone willing to comfort her, move at her pace, and celebrate every tiny step forward. Maybe the first victory will be seeing her peek out of her hiding place. Then perhaps she'll accept a gentle touch. One day, she may decide that your lap (instead of her litterbox) is the safest place in the world.

Those moments may take time. But for the person who earns Venus's trust, they could be incredibly special.

If you have a quiet home, a patient heart, and the ability to let a scared cat discover her confidence on her own timeline, please consider giving Venus the chance she's been waiting for.

The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!
