Velma's Story

If Velma could talk, she’d say “Jinkies! There’re no such thing as ghosts, BUT you can never be too sure!”
Velma is an incredibly sweet, silly little cat who is curious about everything. She is very people-oriented; if it were up to her, she’d never not be getting attention from someone. She will actually gently take your hand between her paws and pull it back for her to rub her chin against if she isn’t done getting attention. She’s nothing if not communicative.
She loves other cats, but is a little stilted when it comes to meeting them. And by that I mean she prefers to creep up behind them, sniff them, and then gently bat at their tails and run away. Why? I wish I knew. Again, she can’t speak English, so I’ve gotta work with what I’ve got.
Velma was born outside last year around Augustish 2024 to a feral mother cat named Fig. A friend of mine was caring for Fig at the time and tried to befriend Velma (then called Velcro, because of how closely she stuck to Fig) and Madison wasn’t sure Velma would ever come around to people. I assured her that wouldn’t be the case, and with time she came around to Madison, Madison’s mom, and me. While she is still shy when it comes to meeting new people, she wants desperately to make friends. And once she realizes you are safe, she will never let you stop petting her.
