Tristan's Story

December 27th, 2025 - Please read Tristan's bio, requirements for adoption and if you think he would be a good fit then go to avacats.org and fill out an online application form. An adoption co ordinator will be in touch.<br/>Tristan was rescued from Hamilton Animal Services just before Christmas, he had arrived as a stray, the friendliest cat you could ever want to meet. He was not neutered, no microchip and his stray time was up. He went to our vet where on exam it was noted that he had a chipped canine which was no concern. He purred so loud that the vet had a hard time hearing his heart. He was flea treated, dewormed, received his FVCRP and rabies vaccines, neutered and microchipped. since he was an unneutered male around 3 years old we decided to have him viral tested. He came back as FIV positive. FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus - a virus transferable by deep penetrating bite wounds, not casual encounters. It can not be passed to humans or dogs. This means that if he gets a cold it may take him a bit longer than a non FIV cat to recuperate . His quality of life remains the same . He needs to be kept indoors, go to the vet for annual exams fed good quality cat food and he can live a long and healthy life like any other cat you may come across. Don't cross him off your list of adoptable cats, because he will make you just as happy! It is recommended he be the only cat in the house BUT studies show that FIV cats can live among non FIV cats if they are all non aggressive or if you are looking for a companion for another FIV cat. Please read up on FIV a much misunderstood virus. Tristan is a LOVER not a fighter. He just loves to be brushed , his canned food, toys and cuddling with his foster mom. He is so happy to be indoors , safe and warm. His adoption fee is $250. AVA has an indoor and no declaw policy. He is in a foster home in the Hamilton area.
