Triscuit's Story

Like my namesake I am a full of energy and sometimes salty guy. I am so full of myself that I found it difficult to hold still for my photo shoot. I almost turn myself inside out begging for some loving, virtually standing on my head and giving bodacious head bumps. As for the salty part, I am not a fan of other cats and can be downright cranky with them. As the center of one’s universe in a single cat (ME!) home I think I would be an entertaining, affectionate, and fun companion.

DOB: 2009
Rec’d: 3/5/11
History: Triscuit was surrendered when the dog in the home became aggressive.

Fall Update 2025: Thoughts from Volunteer Steve: Summer in Virginia arrived and with it came record-warm weather. Triscuit was delighted! He established his place in a deep bed on a ledge on the Senior Room Catio. There, he’s been soaking up the warmth and snoozing peacefully. Barking dogs and roaring lawn mowers do not disturb him. He’s still picky about who can disrupt his naps. However, I’m happy to report that I have joined the small group of admirers he more than tolerates. This has only taken a year and a half. Perhaps it’s due to discovering he loves chin rubs. Each of our last several cuddle sessions have lasted 10-15 minutes as Triscuit closed his eyes in seeming ecstasy as I scratched his chin. He’s validated my belief that many seemingly fractious cats can be won over with patient attention.

Winter 2024 Update: I've moved. Joke on the street is that I've moved into the "official" CFC retirement wing where all the kitties are seniors or super seniors. As you know, I've been working at the Post kitchen for some time now. Finally, it was clear I was just tired of all the ruckus caused by all the new and very young kitties and asked to please be relocated. Amazingly, my request was processed very quickly and I'm now in the Senior Cat Room up by the main office. I am loving life here. I might be the most active in this group and it suits me just fine. I settled in super fast and felt right at home. I might have even let out an exhale of relief and satisfaction to have found such an amazing spot. When you're next in the neighborhood, stop on by and be sure to look me up at my new address.

More about me November 2024: As the weather warmed this year, Triscuit (aka Mr. Salty Face) became an almost permanent resident of the Senior Room Catio. Having spent years in the Post kitchen, he had no idea how wonderful the Great Outdoors of the Catio could be. He was out there ALL the time. Even Hurricane Helene’s downpours didn’t drive him inside.

And why should it? He’s got two favorite beds—one in the sun and the other in the shade for really hot days. He’s got a litter box that the other cats rarely use. Now, if only he could get GrubHub to deliver his food to the Catio, he’d NEVER have to come inside. And even though it’s now November and cooler weather has arrived, Triscuit is still enjoying the Catio.

He may have a few more salty flecks in his coal-black fur but he’s retained his handsome physique. No one would think he’s 15 years old. And he may be mellowing a bit. While he still often ends a volunteer visit with a mild bat with his declawed front paw, he recently seemed to thoroughly enjoy a 20-minute (!) petting session with me. Steve, CFC Volunteer

Triscuit is one of THE most awesome cats at CFC. Steadily holding down a very revered post at The Scratching Post kitchen area, he's a fast meeter and greeter and loves everyone he meets and ALMOST loves the dogs he meets more than the humans he meets. He's not a huge fan of other cats. He needs to be watched when he is "on task" and working in the kitchen area to make sure he is behaving in an appropriate manner towards the other loose cats. His ideal home would be stocked with humans who LOVE an interactive kitty (head butts and purring and figure-eighting) and also pre-stocked with a dog or too and also kids. Some might say Triscuit is actually a dog wearing a sleek black cat suit! Note 2024: As an update, Triscuit no longer works at The Scratching Post and is now in our senior room where he is doing terrific!!
