They are approximately one year old.

Every morning, Toulouse and Berlioz are a pile of warm cats on top of you, waiting for you to open your eyes so they can start purring. There was a time when nobody could get near either of them.

They're brown tabby brothers, picked up as tiny kittens at the Seattle Opera house, which is the fanciest thing that's ever happened to them and the reason they got named after the kittens in The Aristocats. They arrived hissing and hiding and frightened of everybody. They spent their first weeks in a spare bathroom before they would take on the rest of the house, and for a long while that was that.

Then one afternoon Berlioz climbed into an empty desk chair and settled in. Sit down in it and he stays right where he is, wedged in behind you, purring. He has worked from that chair ever since, as unpaid moral support.

Toulouse is the one who makes a funny scrunched-up face. Blanket-covered feet are the great love of his life: he'll seek them out, climb aboard, and settle in. Offer him a belly rub, though, and he'll bat your hand away, insulted, while Berlioz melts into the same belly rub a foot away. It's the most reliable way to tell them apart.

In the daytime, Toulouse is off on his own agenda. Berlioz divides his time between the chair, the bed, and whatever Toulouse is doing. But every night both of them turn up and snuggle in, which is how the mornings happen.

New people still make them nervous, and they'll go hide in the closet among the hanging dresses. Reach a hand in blind and they'll lean into your fingers, as long as nobody pulls the dresses aside to look. That is who they are right now: cats who want the affection and need it on their own terms until they know you. Other cats are no trouble at all; they live with several and sleep in a heap with them.

It took them a while to decide about people. They've decided. Give them a little time and they'll decide about you too.

What Toulouse and Berlioz are looking for in a home:

- They want to stay together forever and must be adopted as a pair.
- They can get nervous, so they need a kind and patient guide to help them feel comfortable with new experiences.
- They need to live indoors only.
- They have a positive history with other cats and may like having a feline friend close to their age.
- They have no known history with dogs.
- They get along with children.

All Alley Cat Project’s cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. Consistent with Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines, ACP follows current shelter medicine practices and does not routinely test every healthy, low-risk cat for FIV and FeLV.

Alley Cat Project adoption fees are:
- $200 per cat or kitten
- $350 for pair of cats or kittens
- $50 for senior cat (over 8 years old)
- Flexible reduced fees for a cat with a chronic medical condition that requires ongoing care
- Adjustable fee upon request for adopters who are low income, and seniors, disabled, or others with fixed incomes.
- Additional charitable donations are appreciated and support our overall rescue efforts

Thank you for your interest in Toulouse and Berlioz! If your household fits the above criteria, you can apply to adopt them by filling out this questionnaire: https://alleycatproject.org/adopt

Only applicants who complete the questionnaire will be considered. Please do not submit an inquiry through Petfinder, as it will not replace the questionnaire and we will not respond. Many of our cats receive numerous applications, and we thank you for your patience while we review applications and find the best match. Local Seattle applicants only, please.

Please do not follow up on your application by phone or email as this will not expedite a response.
