Tommy B's Story

Meet Tommy Biggs, a 10 year old cat that was trapped in the area of the large apartment complex along Sky Pointe, between Azure & Tenaya.
While being vetted, the compassionate staff of Heaven Can Wait, a non-profit animal clinic that is the premier low cost, & in some instances free spay/neuter services, called me an hour after I had dropped he and others off there.
They had found an infected wound to one of his back legs. & had administered a long acting antibiotic injection , but the wound was so large, they had resorted to staples to close it. They asked that we keep him 2 weeks for recovery, then bring him back to have the staples removed.
During the recovery period, he began to realize we were being kind & meant no harm, & he began to respond socially instead of using what had been a mask of hissing & snarling defensiveness .
When returned to the clinic for the staples to be removed, we had a microchip implanted and combo test done. The test revealed the presence of Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) antibodies. This means he's been exposed to the virus, but in many instances did not become infected with it. Cats that are infected can pass it only through deep bites or through mating, & only to other cats. It's not something that can be passed to dogs or people.
A risk we couldn't take by putting him in with other cats, it's a set back in our efforts to show him for adoption at The Rescued Treasures Cat Cafe,
He would do best adopted as the only cat to a loving home, and as a senior cat our best hope is for an older person' to make him a family member.
