Tom's Story

Joyful Rescues is considering Tom to be a sanctuary kitty with us. It's not that he is feral as are the other 6 sanctuary kitties here that live in the basement, garage, outside, with cat doors open 24/7. Tom is a friendly kitty, but he seems really elderly and it also seems that he has lived a rather rough life and likely mostly, if not all, outside. He was not neutered until he arrived....maybe his playboy days were over so he decided to find a nice retirement home as he invited himself to live here. Whether one of the other cats showed him all the doors or he found them himself is a mystery, but he's not the first kitty to simply appear in our basement. He was afraid of us humans at first, but warmed up quickly once he realized he was safe. Tom is very happy here and hangs around the humans when outside. We have noticed that his eyes seem 'weepy' and his breathing is audible. Other than this he seems healthy for his age and has a good appetite and gets around just fine. Just an absolute guess maybe he was born in 2009. Would we welcome an adoption for Tom? Yes, as long as we felt he would be happier there than he is here.<br/>A cat can live 12-18+ years if cared for properly. Be sure you are able to care for it for its lifetime. Joyful Rescues's Adoption Policy
By adopting a pet you are not only helping the pet you adopt but also others in or needing to come into rescue. Your adoption helps us to keep doing what we do to help area animals stop reproducing and find quality homes for the homeless while providing them the best care we can.  Your new family member will take considerable time, attention, patience and money to be properly cared for. Think of your new addition as your baby!! It is not a lawn ornament to be tied in your yard or kept in a basement. Consider the ultimate size of a young pet, how big of a pet can you handle?? Are you ready for an adult DOG or CAT in your family? If not, do not adopt a puppy or kitten - they grow up. Are you prepared for unexpec
