Tofu's Story

Meet Tofu, a handsome white kitty who was part of an overcrowded cat situation with owners no longer able to care for their kitties. Tofu and a few housemates made their way to Second Chance. Tofu's housemates have been adopted while Tofu went to foster care to receive some extra TLC but now he is ready for a home of his own.

Tofu is one of the sweetest, gentlest cats his foster Mom has ever met. Tofu yearns to be loved, enjoying pets and being held. Tofu eagerly wants a lap or chest to lay on. He is so flexible, at times his foster Mom thinks he has jello for bones. This flexibility comes in handy when he decides to flop on her lap and just hang. He truly cannot get enough attention and is eager for affection at all times. He also likes to nuzzle her face and give kisses. Tofu's passion is springs, chasing them wildly. If he was human he would have been a soccer player! He also appreciates a wand toy. Tofu is not picky about food but he especially appreciates wet food and for a treat, Churu.

Tofu has an elevated third eyelid of his right eye. He contracted herpes in his eyes (very common with cats) in the birth canal likely when he was born. Left untreated it created some ulcers in his right eye, which in turn created scar tissue. The scar tissue in his right eye prevents the third eyelid from fully retreating. The eyelid can raise but not lower. The ulcer also affected his cornea. He has vision in his right eye but it's limited. As a result of the scarring, his eyes tear. He receives gel-like moisturizing eye drops (found over the counter at grocery stores and pharmacies) to help with comfort after a warm washcloth is used to keep his eyes clean. It's quick and easy and Tofu will sometimes purr in appreciation.
Tofu leads a normal cat life; running, jumping, playing, eating, loving. His eye condition is not contagious and he freely interacts with his foster Mom's cats.

Tony would be great for any type of adopter; single, couple or family. Ideally, he would be in a home where his adopters are there a lot since he loves to be near people. He is a great couch and bed companion. To say he is affectionate is an understatement. He constantly purrs and wants to be near people. He is friendly to everyone he meets and they all fall in love with him. He is eager to be his adopter's new best friend.
Tofu could also be part of a friendly, playful cat household as he gets along with other cats well.

With an approved application, a visit can be arranged in his foster home.

Tofu has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Tofu has an approximate birthdate of 04-02-2023. His adoption fee is $95.

If you are interested in Tofu or any of the cats at Second Chance Cats of West Michigan, go to sccatswm.org/adopt to fill out an application, or stop in during open hours on Fridays from 11-2 or Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4.

Please note - we can only adopt to those who live within a one hour drive of Grand Rapids.

Thank you!
