Timmy was a stray in a Waverly neighborhood for several years. Lots of people fed him. Finally last fall he was fed by a family and stuck around. They bonded with Timmy and decided he deserved a better life and asked if we could take him in. So Timmy is a WPR kitty and living in a foster home. Timmy is up to date on shots, tested FeLV negative, and neutered. He tested positive for FIV.

Timmy is probably about 3 years old. We took him in last October. He is really friendly but had some street cat behaviors that made him not adoptable at the time. When you go to feed him or try to pet him, he will in a non-aggressive way bite you and scratch at you. I am certain he has never lived in a home before, and this behavior is what he did on the streets. He was around people enough to trust them, but not enough to know how to behave around them. In no way is what he did in a mean matter, he did it because he didn't know any better. I considered putting him on a farm but decided to work with him first and try to help him be an inside kitty.

So it was slow go the first couple months. What I did is every time he would lunge at me, I would hiss at him like I was his mama. And I didn't just hiss, I would HISSSSSS strong, loud, and full of authority. It did start to help, and it did work. It took almost 6 months and Timmy no longer lunges, bites, or scratched. What a good boy! It seems like he understands now what I expect and how to act.

It is possible a new home will have to start over with his training. I am unsure if he will regress and do it again in a new home or not. My hope is that if he does it, his new family can hiss at him and he will understand and stop.

Timmy is a sweetheart and quite friendly. He has the build of a street cat still and is a lean machine and very muscular. He is grateful for attention and love and especially food. It is a hard life out there for cats and he is happy to be inside.

Timmy has been around other cats now and did not have any issues with them. With FIV, he can be an only cat, around other cats with FIV, or around any cat. The only way it is passed to another cat is with mating or a very deep bite wound. As long as your cat is not an alpha and wants to dominate Timmy, he should be fine with other cats.

Timmy's adoption fee is $95.00.

To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $250 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office
