Pet Orphans of Southern California's Adoption Policy
Potential adopters may visit our Pet Orphans facility during operating hours as many times as they need to spend time with a pet they are interested in adopting. Applications for a pet may be submitted in-person at the reception office or through our website. Applications for a pet will be accepted until the best home for the pet is found ( NOT on a first-come, first-serve basis). Potential adopters will be notified of their application status anytime from 2 days to 2 weeks. If an application is approved, then the adopter can come to our facility to finalize. During finalization, adopters can expect to stay for 30 to 45 minutes to go over paperwork, sign the adoption contract, and pay the adoption fee. Pet Orphans also provides the option of applying for a foster-to-adopt. Foster applications must go through the same approval process, but approved fosters are allowed to take a pet home for 10 days to get a better sense of how a pet will acclimate to a household and lifestyle. After 10 days, foster must decide whether or not to finalize adoption.
