Thackery's Story

Thackery is a special, playful boy who has become a cattery favorite at Animal Haven. Thackery came to us with an interesting quirk: he liked to attempt to eat inedible objects!

Because this behavior was so unusual, Thackery spent a lot of time with little to no access to toys when he first arrived (eating them can be dangerous!) At the same time, we consulted with our veterinary team to determine potential causes for this behavior, and provided Thackery with lots of food-based enrichment, like lickmats and slow feeders. Over time, a combo of medication and a special diet has mostly curbed Thackery's appetite for anything but food. Phew!

Besides learning how to manage this behavior, Thackery is a very quirky character that is fun to be around. He can be trusted with specific toys, and he loves different types of treats. He is playful, curious, and loves chasing toys. Once Thackery gets his energy out, he's the perfect pal to lounge around with, especially if there's a window for him to look out of.

Though Thackery's "quirk" can be a big responsibility, he has made a lot of progress since he's first arrived. He'd thrive in an environment that can keep his mind stimulated with toys, play, and puzzles. If Thackery sounds like the goofy guy for you, come meet him at Animal Haven!
