Teapot's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.

If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.

Meet Teapot!
Update 2/18/26 - Here is what Teapot's foster family has to say:'Teapot, affectionately called Pepper, is just the sweetest girl! She greets me with sweet meows and kind chirps, and loves to curl up at the end of the night. She loves her wand toy! (be prepared to play all day lol). She also loves to gaze out the window, so be sure to keep the windows open and provide her with a nice view. Throughout the day she mostly plays, naps, and nibbles on her food. She meows with cute, soft chirps. She loves to cuddle and purrrr at the end of the night as well as when you return from a long day. She is well socialized and does well with people. (I have friends with cats and am arranging a cat play date this weekend to see how she does with them). She is very curious and loves to sneak into little corners and crevices. She requires bedroom access or else she will be vocal at night. As long as you keep the door cracked she will be alright. If you close the door and close her out she will meow loudly at night until the door is opened. She tolerates being picked up but does not enjoy it past a few seconds. She uses her litter box regularly and drinks lots of water. She does seek attention from time to time, but overall she is more chill. She often plays by herself (trapping & chasing 'prey' around the house). Overall, she is a somewhat shy yet very open and lovable kitty. She would make a lovely addition to anyone's home.'Original Story:This sweetheart was adopted from ARWOB by her foster, who had her from September to December 2024. He could not say goodbye to her when an applicant inquired about her and chose to adopt her. Sadly, we were just contacted by her family and were told that Teapot has to go. Why? Because the couple, who have a human kiddo under 8 years old and now have a newborn baby, are being kept up at night. They did adopt a dog 3 months after finalizing the adoption of Teapot and since then she has lost the run of the house. With a pregnant mom, a new dog in the family, along with a working dad, it is likely the attention and priorities in the household have changed.
Teapot had always been allowed access inside their bedroom, but a few months before the new baby was due to arrive, she was left outside the bedroom. Although the family believe she is a great cat and love her, the vocalization at night has reached a point of needing her gone. Instead of rehoming their dog or attempting behavior control, they have chosen to get rid of Teapot. After all, how do you explain to an animal that she is no longer allowed in the bedroom because she is causing sleep disruption? Perhaps they should not have allowed her to sleep in the bedroom from the start or should have done research 6 months ahead of time before the new baby was due to arrive. Having a newborn equates to lack of sleep and other daily life disruptions. Having a dog that takes over the downstairs would leave Teapot seeking human companionship upstairs since she was not comfortable interacting with the dog. So instead of roaming downstairs in the area that was now the dog’s space, she became more active at night and would seek attention from her humans upstairs.
We are looking for a foster-to-adopt scenario or an adopter who believes this will not be a problem for them. What would be our recommendation? Do not allow Teapot in your bedroom at night from day one. This way she learns the rules right away. We suggest only allowing her in the bedroom during the time you are awake and just taking naps, OR if you are planning on having a new baby in the future, allowing her in the bedroom is NOT going to be a determining factor to suddenly ban her from the bedroom once the baby arrives. Most cat owners do not have an issue with this. Teapot used to live with many ARWOB cats and dogs and she was fine with them. But once she was adopted, she became the only cat in the household until suddenly everything changed. We think she will do fine with normal reintroduction to a household with cats and/or dogs, as long as they are not the type to chase her or have higher energy than she does – unless she has a nice, tall cat tree to perch on. We do know that Teapot is a loving, social, and outgoing cat with both humans and children. We are looking for a FOREVER family, who understands commitment and not an adopter that keeps her until she becomes “inconvenient” for them.
If you would like to meet this adorable girl and give her the forever home she deserves, please complete an online application at www.arwob.org right away! We would love to find her a forever family as soon as possible. Animal Rescuers Without Borders,Inc.'s Adoption Policy
The A.R.W.O.B. group prides itself on carefully placing animals into responsible and loving homes. We care about the present and future lives of the many unwanted dogs and cats and strive to improve them so they can come to know stability, love and safety. For more information, please visit our website at www.arwob.org. Our adoption procedure is as follows: 1) Adoption Application filed by applicant (visit the applications page to fill one out!). We typically adopt dogs and cats to individuals or families located in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles areas. However, we may consider potential adopters within California, Arizona, and Nevada (within a reasonable driving distance) under certain circumstances. We require that the application be approved ahead of time and a home check must be done via FaceTime Skype (we do not accept videos for this purpose). We would also require the potential adopter to come to San Diego to meet the animal in person and we recommend bringing any current pet(s) to see if they will get along. If the potential adopter opts out of the meet-n-greet with their existing animal(s) and if the new pet does not get along with their existing pets, we would require the adopter to drive back to San Diego to return the animal -- we cannot provide transportation. Our adoptions are time sensitive and our policy is that we do not place holds on any of our rescues. PLEASE NOTE: We have implemented a new policy for those who are currently serving in the military. IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application. 2) A play date between the applicant and rescue (dog or cat). An applicant MUST have an APPROVED online adoption application filed BEFORE scheduling a playdate at the animal's foster home. The playdate will ensure that the potential adopter and the dog/ cat they are interested in is the right match. If the dog/cat does not possess the qualities and behavioral traits the applicant is looking for, we can continue the adoption process by meeting another rescued dog or cat. You can also meet the animal you are interested in at scheduled adoption events. Approved applicants have priority to meet an animal over others. Please read the events page for more information about meeting an animal at an event and possibly taking them home afterward. 3) Home checks to ensure the safety of our rescues (If applicable). An ARWOB volunteer will contact you upon approval of your application (and the playdate appointment) to schedule a visit to your home. Here we will take a look at where the cat/dog will be living. Your home and yard must be safe and secure. 4) Adoption Contract and ID from applicant If everything checks out during the homecheck and we believe our rescued dog/ cat will live happily there, we will go ahead and sign the adoption contract to makes the adoption official. 5) Adoption fee Fees are different for both dogs and cats and are based on age and, sometimes, on the breed. Please visit the adoption fees page for a break down of all. 6) Denial of adoption applications We screen all of our adoption applications thoroughly in order to find the perfect home for our rescues. There may be times when we feel the adopter is not a good fit based on the answer to questions on their application. Please know that we vet each applicant with the animal's best interest in mind. In the event that your application is denied, you will receive an email letting you know of our decision. However, we will not be able to answer detailed questions regarding the denial.
