Meet Tank! <br/>At six years old and weighing in at more than 15 pounds, Tank is a big, handsome guy whose name is pretty darn fitting! He may be a substantial cat, but what he really needs is a calm, quiet place where he can relax, feel secure and be his very best self.<br/><br/>Tank was surrendered to the shelter at the end of July and we're hoping his next chapter will be in a forever home where his needs are understood and respected.<br/><br/>Black cats and black dogs are often overlooked by adopters. Sometimes they're harder to see in a shelter cage or kennel, especially in photographs, and they don't have the eye-catching spots, stripes, or colorful patterns that can immediately grab someone's attention.<br/><br/>But there is so much more to a pet than their coat color. Tank may not have a flashy pattern, but he has a lot of love and companionship to offer the right person. He just needs someone who will take the time to see the wonderful cat behind the black fur.<br/><br/>You may notice a health waiver flag in Tank's file. Tank takes an inexpensive anxiety medication, which currently costs approximately $5-$10 per month. His medication is part of helping him manage stressful situations and feel more comfortable in his environment.<br/><br/>Because Tank has a lower tolerance for stressful situations, he needs a very specific type of home. He should be the only pet in the household (no other cats or dogs). We also feel he would do best in a home without children under the age of 12, as the activity, noise and energy level that often comes with younger children can be overwhelming for him.<br/><br/>What Tank really needs is a zen-like environment. A peaceful home, predictable routines, gentle interactions, and a person who understands that giving a cat space and respecting his boundaries can make all the difference.<br/><br/>Our adoption consultant will discuss Tank's needs with you at length and answer any questions you may have. We want to make sure you have a clear understanding of what Tank needs to thrive because it is incredibly important to us to set both you and Tank up for success.<br/><br/>And perhaps Tank's ideal person may be someone who understands anxiety themselves. His forever someone should know that sometimes the best way to help is simply to create a safe, calm environment and be there without judgment. <br/><br/>Tank isn't looking for a busy household or a house full of chaos. He's looking for his calm. His safe place. His person. Could you be the one who finally sees this big, beautiful black cat for exactly who he is? <br/><br/>The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times.
