Sylvester's Story
Sylvester came to us due to absolutely no fault of his own. Unfortunately his home environment changed and his owner, the one and only person he knew, was no longer able to care for him. The family was in immediate need for placement and Sylvester found himself in our care.

Sylvester has struggled somewhat since arriving at the shelter. He is acclimated to being the only cat and having just one person involved in his day to day life. To leave such familiarity and enter a place such as an animal shelter, with many, many more cats and a variety of people - we cannot imagine how earth shattering this must have been for Sylvester.

Sylvester is mildly tolerant of other cats. He doesn't enjoy sharing resources with 10+ cats in his room. He doesn't like them in his space, in his face, playing with his toys, etc. It would be the same as going from an only child to a household with 10 'new' siblings. Sylvester craves a world he once knew - where he was the center of attention and enjoyed the company of his owner.

Sylvester is neutered and has received his distemper and rabies vaccines. He is up to date on flea & tick preventative and was feline leukemia & FIV tested. He is negative for both.

We do not know how he would do with dogs - this is something we have not tested. He did come from a home with a Great Pyrenees and it was shared he did well there but we are not certain on this. He is mildly tolerant of cats but would prefer to be the only cat in the home.

He prefers to keep to himself and observe from a quiet & hidden place. He would prefer to keep to himself and is a private kind of guy. He merely wants to exist and nothing much more. However, this may change in due time once he learns people are not scary and he can trust again. He will need a patient and loving family who will allow him to be him, perhaps from a distance for some time.

Sylvester especially enjoys laying in sink bowls and protecting them from hand-washing folks, ha! He also enjoys hiding behind the toilet as well - so perhaps the bathroom is his favorite place in the house - who knows?!

Ideal home: Sylvester needs a quiet home where he is the center of attention with his owner. He needs a stable home, one free of disruptions and chaos. He doesn't want to share resources (ex: food) or his human. He will - but he is more passive and will cower and hide with a more dominant personality present. Although he is not afraid to give a fellow kitty a swat or two if they disrespect him. He does not enjoy being picked up and would not like to be in a home with a lot of consistent high level energy, often found with young kids.

Sylvester is a wonderful and loving kitty - he is quite scared at first and is cautious. He does comes around and is worth the wait. Please consider giving Sylvester a new home and a new promise of forever.
